Love Letter 8 – Nixon

Love Letter 8 – Nixon

The soothing, soulful vocals of Alicia Keys supply the afternoon vibe as I pop back into California 1960:

Work has actually been rather quiet so far to-nite thank goodness as I am rather tired – did have 6 hours sleep tho?.
Mary Kaye and I drove over to the airport to pick up Joan and Ernie – really funny.
Many, many people there to meet Nixon w/ banners, flags, buttons, etc.
So we had some fun – Jeanne had made a huge banner w/ “Welcome Joan and Ernie delegates” (picture of an elephant). So when they came off the plane we held this up and yelled – were they ever embarrassed – everyone laughed coming up the escalator.
We went out for supper in the city then home.
Bobby and Mary Jo picked me up. We laughed all the way to work – what a crew – am going over there Wednesday nite for the evening.
Ernie and I might venture down to Shattuck Ave to bowl a game too – there my dear are my social activities for the week.
Haven’t had much time to talk w/ the kids but they seemed to enjoy themselves – brought back a spoon (w/ Hollywood on) and an apron for me (nice white one w/ California on).
Am sending you some of the write ups of the articles on ‘Psycho” – much controversy lately and of course Peanuts went along.
Hello to everyone for me please.
Thank you for the picture very nice, dear.
I love you, dear with all my heart – soon we’ll be together forever!!
I love you!!
Yours always,
Bette

p.s. Carole (one of my bridesmaids) & Don (town engineer) Wright from F. Flon are going to Wpg @ the end of  Sept – and will phone you dear – anxious to meet you – maybe you could have a beer somewhere

Ha – giddish young gals anxiously awaiting the arrival of their faux ‘delegate’ gal pals, surrounded by Nixon supporters, while clutching their self made banner and each other to the point of exhaustion, is certainly a sight to envision . . . ‘Welcome Joan and Ernie delegates’!!
