Love Letter 7 – Bette Johnston
Love Letter 7 – Bette Johnston
Potatohead People’s soulful What it Feels Like permeates the minimal media room providing the ideal mood for a nostalgic trip down (Mom’s) memory lane as I re-enter September 1960 in Love Letter 7:

Talked w/ Doris Cole – another nurse who just works part time at Alta Bates – haven’t seen her for ages – and she is a nut also.
Asked me if I could fit her into my heavy date book now since you left – so am going out to her home (Montclair) on one of my days off next week and we’re going to barbecue our supper outside and play stereo, etc (she’s the one who has 2 Siamese cats – so said she’d hide them while I was there).
My activities for another week, honey!
Thought the card I found was real appropriate – any resemblance dear.
Well sweetheart guess I best go now as it’s nearly that time.
I believe time will go quickly dear and before we know it’ll be Christmas, then April 30.
I love you dear more than anything, can hardly wait to have you near me all the time and I can proudly have your name. Bette Johnston (looks great doesn’t it honey).
May not get a chance to write Thurs or Friday – but I’ll write often dear (over).
I love you my darling – and am so lucky to have you –
Soon we’ll be together – Zowie.
Bye now my love.
Yours always,
Bette

Another Hi Brows card, this time depicting a downtrodden character:
I just wanted to let you know I’m broke …
as soon as I can lay my hands on some cash – Mom replaces: ‘I’ll send you a birthday card’ with: Let’s get married cuz I LUV U!!
All my love,
Yours always
Bette

I ima
gine countless, fragile pages of a timeworn writing pad devoted to Mom’s endless signing of her soon-to-be married name . . . Bette Johnston. Somethings never change!
