Love Letter 7 – Apt #102
Love Letter 7 – Apt #102
Jacksoul’s Can’t Stop bounces repeatedly off the soft white walls of suite 1969 as I depart the ‘tired and jaded’ world outside and throw myself into September 1960 with Mom’s Love Letter 7:
Apt #102 2331 Blake St
Berkeley, Somewhere in U.S.A.
Sept 13/60 10 pm
Hi My Dear!
How about this 2 letters in one day 7 hours apart – man it must be love!
But here it is nearly time for me to get dressed in white and where’s my groom – too damn far away I’d say – I love you, Bryan more than words can say — I love you –
Terrific romantic music on AM on the radio and my thoughts w/ you.
Got home around 8:15 this morning – what a crazy crew.
Mary Jo, Bobby & I did a bit of shopping at Sid’s before we came home – truly dear we were so euphoric (just plain punchy – always after nite duty – you should see me then, honey, I’m dangerous).
We were pressing those buttons telling us where to find anything we needed as our minds were a bit dim.
Finally got out of that place without destroying the place entirely.
Ventured into #102 and sat down to my wheat Chex, juice, coffee, toast & marmalade – had a cigarette, read the Chronicle then Ernie arose (she didn’t have to go to work until 10 AM).
Decided we’d talk for awhile so at 9:30 AM closed my hazel eyes!!
Then arose at 1 pm thinking I was in true labour – Red letter day (started last nite) – felt rather miserable (didn’t have my love to rub my back either). So got up and filled a hot water bottle, put it on my abdomen, took some codeine (still have a supply from F.F.) then back to sleep – never heard a thing until 5 pm – got up, had a few words w/ Joanne, then uptown to get my slides.
Gee they really worked out – Carmel, San Diego, Victoria, Crater Lake, etc – so lived over some of our trips again.
Joan cooked supper – ate, then Joan had to go to a baby shower. Mary Kaye dropped over w/ a bottle of bourbon and we all had a drink then they left –
Was talking to Pat and Frank on the phone – thought they’d like me to babysit Friday nite – but Pat is having a shower at their place that nite – so didn’t need my services.
Pat driving over Thurs afternoon and I’m going back to their place for the day, supper and the night – they’re really great – sure think a lot of you dear, as I do.
They wanted me to stay Thurs & Fri so I wouldn’t be too lonely – will see.
Then I baked some chocolate chip cookies for Joan & Ernie, put stamps in those books and sat down to write you dear.
No
need to be a fly on the wall in apartment 102 – it’s all here . . .
Crispy milk-drenched wheat Chex washed down with juice and coffee, catching up on yesterday’s news and gossiping endlessly with roommates; craving loving back rubs for an aching abdomen and reminiscing shared picturesque, photographic memories; sipping bourbon with drop-in pals, smelling fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and filling the pages of another loving letter as romantic music bounces off the walls of Apt #102!
I can’t stop loving you, baby

Back rub’s eh? I know someone else who LOVES back rubs…
Back rubs are undeniably a blessing!

Love that they take the time to visit and have drink! I don’t think we make make that effort as much these days.
Maybe that will change in the coming months Janna ❤️
