Love Letter 43 – Songbook

Love Letter 43 – Songbook

A gamut of emotions wash over me following the evening’s performance and while filing out of the QE Theatre along luminated aisles, through opened glass doors and onto the pebbled plaza – where a much different scene plays out. Neighbouring families amass across sprawled beach blankets and sleeping bags, gazing upward at mammoth screens of animated marvel and under the delight of distant, twinkling galaxies.
Mixed emotions continue into dreamland through to tomorrow where I’m greeted with Peter Gabriel’s The Book of Love and the gleaming content of Mom’s Love Letter 43:

Hi Honey:
Just a short note to say hello and see how you are?
Miss you so very much, dear.
Have addressed over a dozen Christmas cards and written 3 more letters – haven’t moved from the kitchen table in over 2 hours – numb.
Then Mom showed me some pics she had around here – great fun – here’s one of me last Christmas at work – w/ short hair.
I love you so, honey.
So anxious to be w/ you!
Love always
Yours,
Bette

Chopp – Chopp!!
P.S. Mom wants you to bring your song book I gave you when you come at Christmas – Okay.
Don’s stationery
Rex Theatre stationery reads: “Get more out of life . . . Go out to a movie”
Mom’s suggested slogan addition: Get Married!
P.P.S. Also dear would you mind sending about 20 slides of San Fran & Disneyland to me, Bette

Christmas scenes wouldn’t be complete without convenient caroling songbooks in the hands of family and friends congregating around the electric chord organ. I can hear the harmonies play out within the brilliantly lit rooms of 18 Lake Street . . . and see you and Dad sneaking an occasional snuggle under the mistletoe!

And you,You can sing me anything
