Love Letter 55 – Extension Cord
Love Letter 55 – Extension Cord
The fog slowly sweeps the unsuspecting White Rock streets like the low lying haze drifting across a performance stage, swallowing up any remnants of the passing sun-kissed summer season – autumn is just around the corner and oh, what an autumn it will be!
The Arctic Monkeys provide an unplugged version of Do I Wanna Know? as I reach for the Dec 19, 1960 postmarked envelope flooded with several folded handwritten pages snuggled within a Sweetheart Tapestry Hallmark card. I instinctively draw the pages to my nose hoping for a subtle smidgen of Mom’s youthful scent before loosing myself amid the warmth of her words that make up Love Letter 55:
Flin Flon —
Sunday 1 pm
Hi Honey!
Here it is – the last Saturday alone has passed hurray!
Only 6 more sleeps so I guess time is actually moving along.
It seems there is always something to do w/ Christmas so near.
Haven’t done any baby-sitting this past week, mainly ‘cause there’s enough to do at home.
Have just a couple more gifts to purchase and should finish wrapping tomorrow nite — you should see the gifts here – last nite got a real craze at wrapping and none of them look too much like Christmas, but had fun —
Then went to the hockey game after – We lost 3-2. I really enjoy hockey, but there just seems to be something lacking w/ the team this year – no real enthusiastic player.
Up at 9 for church this morning. Bobby (Susan’s brother – 1 1/2 yrs) was baptized this a.m. – so Curly drove uptown to get us to go to their church – what a car load – about 9 of us in the car – but Curly is the only one running his car.
You should hear Don – he is so excited about having our car parked in our yard – every so often runs downstairs to see his heap in the garage.
Listen honey – I guess you have a plug? (extension cord) to plug in for the car – it’s cool here too.
Oh can hardly wait, dear.
I love you so.
I must get to the liquor store too — scotch, eh dear. (You & Bud).
Oh please be careful dear – especially from The Pas to here.
Those relatives of mine have bugged me continually — Harry is back now and has a few jokes in mind.
Really, they’re all crazy, but have planned a real meeting – they’ll probably be quiet — ha!
It seems every gift is wrapped w/ a surprise in mind – so beware. (They think they can embarrass us too).
An extension cord for frosty Flin Flon evenings is one thing but it’ll take more than unplugging the cord from the family’s circus circle to keep you and Dad shielded from the several schemes and surprises that surely await you both – oh, what fun!
I dreamt about you near me every night this week
