Love Letter 37 – Honeymoon

Love Letter 37 – Honeymoon

The ocean air stirs my trapped thoughts and inner emotions until I feel like a stuffed water balloon ready to burst. I close my slightly tearing eyes, take several deep relaxing breaths of the sea’s salt air and allow my innermost recesses to ebb and flow like the tepid tide of the soothing shore.
I walk a short distance down a well trodden path and wonder instinctively into a welcoming neighbourhood cafe. I lose myself in the collective fragrance of floral tea leaves steeping and the sultry sounds of Nora Jones before slipping into the soul settling pages of Mom’s Love Letter 37:

Hi My Darling!
How is everything to-day, dear – hope you had a good day at work.
Would be nice if we could spend our day off (Fri) together, eh – just thought that you probably won’t get this letter until Saturday.
Here it is 3:30 on my day off and I’m lying beside the record player playing old, old records – “The Old Lamplighter,” etc. – great fun – only wish you were here w/ me – so maybe we could wrestle.
I have the ideal clothes on right now – an old white shirt and pair of Don’s jeans – finished cleaning house – right thru’ – just finished washing the floors and thought just about time for a cig and tea break.
Glancing thru’ a magazine and found an article on honeymoons and places to go – guess we’ve had an ideal honeymoon in San Fran – but we thought so anyway, didn’t we!
Really slept in this morning nearly until noon, but nothing else to do.
Besides cleaning house have ventured into some boxes in the basement & have attempted to throw out numerous old school books, etc. that have been downstairs since grade II.
Wow – am I ever old.
Know you’d really appreciate the music on now dear – just put on about 6 records and now there is a dandy – Hank Williams – true cowboy singing “I Can’t Help It if I’m Still in Love With You.”

A magazine article cutout is glued onto page 2 and an excerpt reads:
“San Francisco is the perfect spot for a fall or winter honeymoon. Once described by the late Irvin S. Cobb as ‘a worldly wise yet forever juvenile hoyden swinging on her Golden Gate,’ she’s yours for ten days for as little as $400.”

Hardly ‘old’ Mom – sheesh?! Although, I can see how coming across high school paraphenernalia can make you feel a wee bit ancient -ha.
But how fabulous to be deciding on a dazzling destination for your winter wonderland honeymoon – ah, young love!

Come away with me
And I’ll never stop loving you
