Love Letter 36 – Real Blast

Love Letter 36 – Real Blast

I exchange the cooling Okanagan desert air for the pleasant warming pattern of the Lower Mainland. Crisp fruit notes of matured, bottled grapes and sidesplitting memories of a menopausal women’s weekend linger as I scan the crowded coffeehouse for the perfect corner bistro table overlooking the bustling West Broadway intersection.
I take a long, relaxing moment before stealing away into the sounds of Lucy Pearl and the final pages of Mom’s Love Letter 36, November 1960:

Hi honey,
Another few lines before I seal the envelope.
Must wash my hair, have a bath, then to bed – care to join me lover?!
Guess what dear – we got a wedding gift already. A man that works (gardener) at the hospital gave us a 7 place setting of everyday stainless steel silverware – real nice – so we have utensils anyhow, honey (7 teaspoons, soup spoons, knives & forks).
Also dear, Mom saved Auntie Jean’s cook book for me – so maybe we might eat now & then.
Seems so strange to have people talk about our wedding.
Met some women in the clinic to-day are planning a shower – everyone is ready for a real blast.
Well darling – night!
I love you, honey – wish you were here w/ me right (9pm) now.
Take care of yourself.
Love – Yours always,
Bette xxxx (over)
Chopp – Chopp!!
Quite a write up about the Disraeli Freeway.
P.S. Mom comments every time she looks at your envelope – evidently you don’t need 7 cents for air mail – anywhere in Canada – only 5 cents now.
I love you, my darling.
Only 3 months & 8 days, only 12 Saturdays left while we’re single.

It’s  funny how life goes, huh Mom?! Some days we’re wishing time to pass and other days we’re wishing time to stand still. I feel your time is now! So have a real blast during babbling bachelorette parties, blushing bridal showers and roaring wedding whoopla – woohoo!

I want to dance tonight
I want to toast tonight
