Love Letter 17 – Mr. Williams

Love Letter 17 – Mr. Williams

Springtime emerges, again, following a soggy and chilly step backward. Activities abound around Point Grey High including a lone conga player beating his drums under a flourishing deciduous . . . the beats fade in and out as I slowly round the track.
Once home, Sheila E provides the infectious beat as I step back into the California autumn of 1960 with the continuation of Mom’s Love Letter 17:

Many little things happened so funny last nite.
During the day you talk and are w/ the patients more, but at nite some patients actually sleep –
But trying to work w/ one patient while the other one is sleeping – so you attempt to work in the dark.
But we will be doing our better work at nite, eh honey.
There’s so much I’d like to say but it looks so queer when I write it down, but you know how I talk anyway.
You should meet my little coronary (Mr. Williams, 70+) – he won’t even go to sleep now until I go & rub his back and talk to him for awhile – can hardly wait to spoil you like that, dear.
Last nite he said it makes him so content & happy just to hear me walking down the corridor – better be careful my love, if he didn’t have a wife & had money maybe I’d latch on to him – must say he’d be a helpless type.
You should be here to-nite – music really blaring – we have the stereo on F.M. and Joan’s ordinarily on A.M. and sounds great – rather loud tho’.
Homer dropped over for several minutes this evening – first time in over a month – he sure is finding university rather tough.
He is studying all the time –
Should be hearing from you in the next couple of days – just you telling me you love me makes the time go faster!
But really have so much to do – re: packing, etc so better get busy real soon.
Plan on getting to work next week when I hear from you.
Will probably go over to Pat & Frank’s on Thurs & return Friday – so will say hello from you & take her the pic you sent.
Other than that everyone is fine.
Haven’t heard from my homefront for a week now, but usually get a letter on Thurs from Mom.
Well dear will close now and get the dishes washed –
I love you so very much, honey and how wonderful it will be to be in your arms again.
Only 7 months and 2 days left before April 29th!
Bye now dear.
I love you!
Yours always,
Bette

Hello from everyone.

Walking down the hospital corridor may be music to Mr. Williams ear, Mom and your therapeutic palms may be just what the doctor didn’t order – but you’ll be leaving that glamourous life behind come April 29th . . .

Without love it ain’t much
