Love Letter 18 – What Now Brown Cow

Love Letter 18 – What Now Brown Cow

Mother’s Day happily lingers with memorable, magical moments and fragrant, flourishing flowers and is further enhanced with the magnificently melodic music of Bill Withers and the passionately penned pages of Mom’s Love Letter 18:

Berkeley – Sept 28/60
1:00 PM

Hi Honey!
How wonderful to hear from you to-day, dear! I love you so very much and your letters bring you so much closer to me, but honey can you just imagine how great it’s going to be when we can tell each other in ‘speaking words’ (how’s that for an original term) how much we love each other! Zowie.
Now for business – guess what now dear.
Last nite after I’d written to you and mailed your letter – the 3 of us went out for a sweet snack (dessert) and out of the clear blue sky – Ernie said – ‘Well Bette how long are we going to stay in Berkeley?” – what now, brown cow – I nearly flipped , so with a raised voice (which you hear seldom) I voiced my opinion and asked what the story was – after all just a few days previous they had decided to take off in 4 weeks –
We talked it over at home and the last Ernie said before I went off to work she asked me if I’d consider staying until Dec – now another month longer – mind you by the time they get off work to-day they’ll no doubt take off to-nite.
Sorry you’re to hear me so bitchy, honey – I hate to bother you w/ all this damn confusing jabber, but am nearly fit to be tied as I kinda like to know what I’m doing and all I want to do is be in your arms! now.
Anyhow that’s what has happened in the past few hours.
So honey by Friday I’ll definitely know what the final decision is – as we pay our rent tomorrow and will have to tell the manager if we want our apartment another month.
So if I stay for November have plans to fly back about Dec. 1 (Thurs).
Sorry to confuse you, dear.
Oh how excited I was just thinking 31 more days to see you – now tentatively if I stay November it will be 64 days.
If I do that I’ll be w/ you for over 3 weeks – be able to do Christmas window shopping and buying w/ you –
November paychecks will help us too honey.
Anyhow – hope you’ll be near your home Friday – don’t stay around dear if you have plans, but thought I’ll give you a call after 6 pm – (my turn to pay – I’ll call person-person in case you’re not in) – I’ll be able to tell you all then and you won’t have to think about this ridiculous situation.
Who ever said females ever knew what they were doing.
All I know is we’re getting married April 29th and can hardly wait –
Hello to all.
Sorry to confuse you too, lover.
All my love dear!
Bye now
Yours always,
Bette xxxxx
Chopp – Chopp!
Remember dear if you have plans on Friday go ahead — I’ll call Sat if I don’t get you –

A fabulous Norcross greeting card seizes Mom’s mood – featuring a blue long-haired pup, the likes of a ‘Go Dog Go’ or ‘Lady and The Tramp’ character, with the caption:
Why am I so Doggone Blue???
Inside the card reveals:
I’m missin’- Missin’- MISSIN’ YOU!
All my love, dear
Yours always,
Bette xxxx

Whether Mom’s experiencing a doggone blue state of mind or a what now brown cow moment of roommates indecision – surely the world’s gonna be alright with thoughts of Dad and April 29th. Zowie!

It’s gonna be a Lovely Day!
