Love Letter 15 – Visitor
Love Letter 15 – Visitor
Lightened restrictions, longer days and familiar sounds around the track are welcome signs of brighter days. And although I’ll never be a runner, ha, who am I kidding, or even a long distance jogger – there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel! Once home, I fill the room with Jill Scott’s Golden while slipping back into the radiance of Mom’s Love Letter 15, Sep, 1960:

Hi Dear!
Just read over your letter for the second time – please take care of yourself, honey.
I’m beginning to think you need a nurse– would I fill your requirements?
Remember the last time you had a sore throat – not much sympathy from yours truly – but then I did pump you full of lozenges – at least you won’t be giving your sore throat to anyone else (via kisses) be worth getting right now dear just to be w/ you, again.
Now for a change in the writing.
I have decided to try & write one paragraph properly w/ punctuation & proper sentences – here goes:
Honey, being sick isn’t that bad. Just think in a couple of days you’ll be feeling up to par.
What a guy! ” I think it’s so stupid to get sick” where did you pick up that idea – boy wait till I start my talks of illnesses and sickness.
Don’t worry no lectures when we’re together again, dear. I love you!
So you think you can control my restlessness w/ two little words “come here!” do you – well maybe you’re right – but as usual I’ll disagree at first.
Now looking over the last page – see no difference whatsoever so will continue on my own unorganized way.
Also, from your letter that you’re attempting to figure out when “my visitor” is due – I’ll never tell – keep you in suspense dear till we’re walking down the aisle then I’ll just say “yes” or “no” and wait to see the expression on your face – doesn’t that sound like me – I’m yours dear.
Of course nothing happened since 9 o’clock last nite –
Watched a little T.V., read some more (until midnite) then off to dreamland & you!
These damn beds are lonely without each other aren’t they – oh well dear not much longer.
Can you believe it, slept until 11 A.M. – not much sleep at all, but guess I better get it now in case I don’t get too much sleep after the 1st couple of years of married life.
Say hello to everyone for me please honey – anxious to go visiting w/ you and meet all your friends.
Sure hope you’re feeling better when Carole & Don Wright phone you.
Will close now and write again dear.
I love you so very much –
We’ll be together soon.
Yours always
Bette xxxxxx
Chopp – Chopp
(What does this Chinese term mean, ha?!)
(over)
Remember when I sent you that wee note from Snow Lake – well here it is and there was snow all over the place when I worked there.
4 “X”s – the hospital where I worked and lived (7 beds)
1 – dormitories where the working men of the town lived
2 – staff house – recreation centre – fireplace, etc
3 – curling rink
4 – community hall – badminton, shows, etc –
Zowie, could Flin Flon look like this!?
Still love me?
Bette
(See how exciting it is for me to be in a real city?!)
Well,
Mom it appears you’re seeing the light at the end of your long distance tunnel of love, leading up to your 1961 wedding day . . . with or without your visitor!
Livin’ my life like it’s Golden

“but as usual, I’ll disagree first”….wow, that sounds familiar. HA!
Although, always motivated with Love.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as they say!
