Love Letter 15 – Italian Spaghetti
Love Letter 15 – Italian Spaghetti
Just hours prior to an Italian dining experience featuring Chef Pescetelli’s ‘skillfully crafted tasting menu’ amidst an awe-inspiring interior of European influence and sky-high ceilings, I’m lulled into 1960 Berkeley with Chris Botti’s Embraceable You and Mom’s endearing Love Letter 15:
Apt #102 2331 Blake St

My Honey!
Hello dear here we are talking together again, how wonderful!
Mind you honey you have competition at this precise time as Khrushchev is delivering a speech at the U.N. on T.V. and every now & then I look up to see his smiling face.
Gosh what a guy – best I get out of this country before everyone starts war –
That’s all that’s in the papers every day –
Had a fairly busy time (@ work) last nite, but did get off on time – now for 2 days off.
Slept until noon to-day, then went downtown and did some window shopping – bought some material for my sewing spree then returned to #102.
The apartment sure had become a mess so set to work to clean it up –
1 1/2 hours later had the place shining again then made supper for Joan & I – Italian spaghetti, garlic bread & salad (what you might call a typical American dinner).
How are you dear – am anxious to see you soon – may be sooner than previously planned – who knows.
To-day Joan & Ernie made a fairly definite decision to return to Canada – at the end of October – one never knows.
I still would like to stay until the end of November – that’s it – have enough money to get back to be w/ you dear, but not enough to walk down the aisle in white (unless you’ll marry me in my uniform).
So confusing – wish they’d make up their minds and give me an idea what they’re doing but guess I’m just anxious to get back too.
Hope I don’t confuse you, honey – will tell you all when I find out (the 2 checks in November would help tho’ – oh honey, wish we had money or just elope and we’d be married by now) sort of ridiculous to go thru’ this crazy stage.
I can just see myself venturing around the countryside bag & baggage.
How is everyone in Winnipeg, dear?
Please say hello to all for me –
Miss you very much dear as always.
Is it getting any cooler – weather-wise dear – any leaves leaving the tree yet – can’t remember what the ‘Peg’ is like in October – my it’s been 3 years (oh how excited I’m getting).
How goes my hunter – any luck dear – sorry I can’t be with you to enjoy plucking ducks, etc.
Guess the 3 of you had lots of fun tho’.
Take any moving pictures – ha!
Nothing much on my agenda for the next couple of days – off to the ‘Y’ w/ that nurse I told you about and on w/ some exercises – maybe I’ll lose some weight – you don’t want a chubby wife do you, honey?
Sunday – church then rest until work at 11 o’clock.
What a heavy schedule – ha.
Of course I’ll work on my sewing – at times feel like a little old granny – but haven’t changed any since you left – except being lonely (without) you!
I imagine your Italian spaghetti scene Mom – a candle lit room, soothing background music alluring aroma of garlic and sweet roma tomatoes while sharing tender glances with your man mingled with slippery mouthfuls of pasta and easy conversation while leaning into one another for an occasional tasty kiss. Now that’s Amore!

She’s so anxious to return to that COLD city with her heart filled with warmth and sunshine….
Who feels the extremes of weather when you’re with the one you love?! ♥️
