Love Letter 16 – Trampoline
Love Letter 16 – Trampoline
This morning is anything but chill and after several hours of unknowing tension I find myself comfortably home embracing a ‘calming classical’ musical mix to help offset the day’s news and views. Yo-Yo Mah and Kathryn Stott’s The Carnival of Animals, R.125:XIII. The Swan thankfully assists in transcending me into another realm as I reach for Mom’s handwritten Love Letter 16, tucked securely in its envelope postmarked 1:30pm Sep, 26 1960:

Hi Honey!
Oh how I wish I were w/ you – I love you so very much, dear!
At times it seemed like the days were passing, but now they seem to be at a standstill.
I hope you are feeling better, honey. I am so worried about you – please take care of yourself.
Nothing much happened around Berkeley, but at present – you will not only be marrying a nurse, but also a trampoline artist.
You’d really laugh if you could see me now, honey.
On Saturday afternoon spent about 3/4 of an hour on the trampoline and getting to do a fair number of stunts and now you should see me.
Am so stiff and I can feel every muscle – not as young as I used to be – am walking like I’m 100 years old.
Other than stiff limbs I have a few added bruises (miss your bruises tho!).
Watched some T.V. – Perry Mason & over an hour of campaign discussions (Henry Cabot Lodge) – very interesting.
Joan and I went to church to-day, then out to the pool – was it ever warm – nearly 84 degrees – not like Berkeley. Rather humid and sticky tho!
Then Joan and I went out for a couple of drinks w/ some people from the apartment, home for supper then to work. Our Sunday schedule.
Hope everyone is fine at your home.
Say hello to all for me please.
Well dear guess I should say how yours truly really is –
All in all have had 2 rather lousy (should say moody) days w/ my roommates.
Joan has definitely decided to leave at the end of October – and Ernie fairly sure – so leaves me only one decision & that is to return at the end of October.
Oh honey I can hardly wait to be w/ you – just to have you hold me and talk, and need I say more.
As of a few minutes ago thought definitely of returning at the end of October (or the 1st part of Nov – can stay w/ Mary Jo and Bobby for several days – possibly Tues & Wed & leave here 3rd Nov – what say?) then will be w/ you dear for a week-10 days then home – will come back at Christmas for several weeks.
Just need to see you honey – miss you so very much.
Please don’t let this bother any plans you might have but am so excited – that would mean only 38 days before I’m w/ you – is it that much cheaper to get my plane ticket from Winnipeg?
Will look into flight reservations as soon as I hear from you.
I can send you the money for the plane fare.
Write and tell me what you think – I definitely want to come back then – I know it’s a lot sooner than previously planned but am getting tired of Joan & Ernie’s decisions –
Will work floor duty at home even in the General Hospital need be –
Seems there’s always something new propping up.
Hope your Mom doesn’t mind me appearing on the scene sooner than anticipated to see my loved one.
We’ll have the opportunity to visit w/ some of your friends then up North I go –
If only you could utilize transcending techniques during those pesky ‘moody’ days Mom . . . if only?!
At any rate, your bruises will show signs of multi-colouring healing and in a mere 38 days you’ll have the opportunity of showing off your trampoline artistry – while gaining graphic signs of frisky frolicking fun!
