Love Letter 75 – Crazy Time

Love Letter 75 – Crazy Time

Island’s Cafe is buzzing this fine, soon-to-be summer morning and the combination of melodic playlists, pulsing cubes, corner conversations and translating FaceTime talks is music to my ears. Bryan Adam’s ballad escapes the sizzling speaker and pools over my secluded section of the cafe as I collapse into another fabulous February Flin Flon evening in 1961 with Mom’s memorable Love Letter 75:

Saturday 2 A.M.

My darling!
No doubt you are wondering why the crazy time!
Well dear did a few things after work then Sandra came over.
She looked over some of our gifts then we went down to watch the bowlers.
I was the official score keeper – Bud had brought a bottle of rum so we drank it w/ coke.
After 11 o’clock about 10 of us, Mom included went over to the curling club for a few beers – We (Sandra & I) decided best we come home.
She is staying here to-nite.
Honestly honey I miss you so much.
Can only take these crowds so long.
I miss you & want you w/ me all the time.
It’s so beautiful out!
Much snow, but so warm! What a gorgeous nite for a walk w/ you, my dear!
So here we sit having a cigarette and writing to our fiancés.
Sandy was so pleased w/ your card & words.
I love you so much, dear – can you believe it’s only 7 more days – thank goodness!
Only 7 more sleeps after to-nite to sleep alone!
Wedding plans are progressing fairly well.
Received more gifts to-day, dear.
Some of our china – another place setting as well as our cream & sugar & teapot.
Also, dear what type of pillows do you prefer? Foam or feathers?
— was asked that to-day.
Tomorrow nite will attempt more thank you notes.
We are so lucky.
Hello to all!
Everyone is fairly good here.
Well honey this is just a short note before retiring – we both have to work in the a.m.
‘Nite dear.
I wish you were here, but only 6 more days.
I love you more than anything.
See you soon.
Yours always,
Bette XXXXXXX
Chopp-Chopp!
I’ll write again Sunday!

I noticed a whole slew of exclamations within tonight’s, or should I say Saturday morning’s, love letter Mom?! Hardly excited at such a crazy time or what?! How can you not be with only a few days (and nights) until you’re putting your newlywed china set to good use – not to mention the foam or feather pillows  . . .

When you love a woman, you tell her that she’s the one
