Love Letter 72 – Lucky Couple
Love Letter 72 – Lucky Couple
The signalling of late spring in and around Sullivan Point Park is marked by fresh ocean breezes swirling off warming tide pools, juvenile bald eagles perched in towering Cottonwoods and outstretched tattooed, bronzing bodies absorbing early afternoon sun’s rays.
Morning strains and pains are slowly washed away with the faint ebb and flow of the coastal Crescent Beach shores and my body naturally relaxes against the contoured driftwood while soaking up nature’s finest.
Muffled music escapes a distant cell’s speaker as I dive into the gentle waves of Mom’s fluctuating mood in Love Letter 72:

Sunday – 9:30 pm.
Dearest!
Just a short note before I retire.
Another week-end over thank goodness.
Just think honey only 12 more days!!
Guess I was a little sad about not getting a letter Saturday so excuse the last letter.
I miss you so very much, Bryan.
Saturday nothing too special, didn’t go down to Joyce’s after trying on my gown – went to the hockey game w/ Uncle Frank (we won 6 -2) then for coffee.
Plans will definitely be to spend a couple nites at their suite – much better than the hotel (especially that weekend as there is going to be so many people roaring around & partying w/ the big curling bonspiel on).
Up for church this morning then back to pack.
Curly phoned to ask me to babysit for the kids for about 4 hours – they sure are honeys, but real sick to-day – flu + colds – so really felt like a nurse.
While they slept I cleaned the house.
Drove around for a few mins (Curly’s car) then home.
Got my trunk packed – already to leave with you my dear.
Auntie Bertha + Uncle Frank came up to visit w/ us – looked over pics, talked, etc.
Gran isn’t too well at all, dear, but don’t worry.
It’s her feet – very painful & sore from her knees down (thrombophlebitis – inflammation of the superficial blood vessels) – I’ll explain when I see you.
Anyhow, she needs rest & it’s very hard for her to get around.
Someone is w/ her most of the time – if she doesn’t get feeling better in the next couple days she may go to Aunt Bertha’s to stay so she can be w/ her constantly (needs quite a few things all the time, pills, hot water bottle, etc).
Pretty bad time to feel miserable, but maybe she’ll feel better soon.
How is our thesis going, dear?
Wedding preparations are proceeding fairly smoothly – all I know is I’ll be so glad when we’re married and on our own.
Always someone telling you what to do –
We got another wedding gift honey – a whole canister set, bread box, canisters, etc.
– just know about it, haven’t seen it yet.
– Also ordering a beige kidney (1/2 crescent) shaped footstool.
– got more crystal, too.
We sure are going to be a lucky couple.
Still wonder how we are going to get everything back to Wpg – might even think of Gardewine (storage van) taking it back – reasonable price and deliver it right to our door.
Have about 6 errands at noon tomorrow so will grab a quick lunch.
Will close now my dear.
Can only say I miss you so very very much!
It seems so very very long since I was last w/ you – oh honey I love you more than anything.
‘Nite now, dear
Yours always
Bette XXXXX
Chopp – Chopp!!
P.S. Don’t forget your blood test – I have my report back already.
A few ups and downs in your world, huh Mom?! I hear you – but in 12 days, just think, you’ll be roaring down Highway 10 in your green hornet, overflowing with wedding gifts and belongings, to a place of your very own – living your lives as the lucky couple that you are . . . Zowie!
However far away,
I will always love you
