Love Letter 59 – Love-Making
Love Letter 59 – Love-Making
Small yet meaningful reading rituals fill the sacred space: the lighting of waxed wicks, the wearing of a weathered leather pouch, the whispering of wishful prayers and the ultimate unfolding of treasured handwritten gold . . .
I easily slip into a tender, romantic trance with Norah’s breezy tone and Mom’s tantalizing tales within Love Letter 59, January 1961:
10:30 p.m. Wed.
Hi Honey!
I love you so very much, dear! & miss you so!
Am retiring a little earlier to-day & get some sleep.
Still a little tired from our wonderful week-end together — a little frustrating eh dear – but then only 6 more weeks.
Tomorrow am going to get fitted for my gown so maybe it will make me feel more like our wedding being so near.
How are you dear – I wish you were w/ me, but know we’d get nothing done, but would get caught up in our love-making.
Was real busy at work to-day and surprisingly enough even tho’ it was to have been my day-off, they truly needed me – 3 nurses sick so they were short staffed – so you see dear fate again played her role (they didn’t need me that much Monday).
Will be glad when Sunday comes – my day off – sleep in and go to the late church service.
Am meeting Ethel tomorrow at noon and run around & shop a bit – they still have decisions to make on their dresses.
Oh what great fun – love every minute of it tho’ – to know that everything I’m doing is for you my dear – please remember I love you so.
Right now am listening to Mantovani (Gems Forever) – real lovely selections – playing The Nearness of You.
Wish we were sitting here like at Christmas listening to records.
Got quite a number of cards & letters when I came back.
Heard from Marion & Kirk and they mentioned that Bob couldn’t loan us his bed as he has fairly definite plans of getting married himself – to Betty (had we ever met her dear) – real nice girl (lady).
Did a bit of picking up around here, then Mom & I were invited out for a couple of belated New Years drinks – so wandered back in about 10 pm – not as bad as New Year’s Eve – man, can’t remember a thing – sure glad I was w/ my trusty fiancé.
It’s still so very hard to believe we’ve picked out our apartment & furniture, etc.
How about the couch?
Hope all works out well.
Honey – please work on our thesis every spare minute you have — I love you so & want it finished otherwise who knows??
I may wake up in the middle of the nite screaming “thesis” – or else make you have it done before I make love to you —
Better Beware, dear.
Get it finished!!!!
I’ll close now —
Oh I miss you! Off to bed alone.
I love you!!
Yours always (always)
Bette

Woohoo! Six short weeks and you and Dad will be swooning to the silky scores of records filling every nook and cranny of your newlywed apartment . . .
And ‘how about the couch?’ – cozy and convenient for a little hanky-panky and scores of love-making.
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
