Love Letter 48 – That Hat

Love Letter 48
 – That Hat

National dark chocolate day – how did I miss that?! Who am I kidding, there’s rarely a day that goes by, in my world, that isn’t dark chocolate day.
Groundhog Day, on the other hand, leaves far less of an impression on me with its dismal 40% weather prediction success rate – I’d just as soon rely on Mother Nature as my trusting, guiding force and Mom’s love letters as my beaming recourse.
I break off a couple pieces of my Rooibos tea infused dark chocolate bar, cue up Joe Cocker and melt deeply into December, 1960 with Mom’s Love Letter 48:

Dec 1/60
Flin Flon

Hi Lover!
Well here it is Thursday so near to the week-end that I’m beginning to believe that time is going by – and Dec. already – there is truly a great deal to be done yet.
I miss you so my dear and so very often wish you were with me when some little thing enters my mind that I’d like you to know about!
Have got the orchestra as I no doubt mentioned in my last letter – I should actually write down anything I tell you as I am getting to the frustrated, confused state now.
Honey, do you realize only 20 more days until we’re together then only a little over 6 weeks until we’re man & wife – great!
Right now it is 8 pm and am baby sitting for Carole & Don for a couple of hours – naturally their family is asleep.
Then am meeting Mom & crew at the bowling alley for a 10-pin game, then one beer.
Had a day off yesterday, but did it ever fly by —
Had a dentist appointment at 9 A.M. (2 fillings) and never got out of the chair ‘till nearly 10:30 – home and washed & cleaned a room —
The front bedroom “Has to be clean when son Bryan arrives” quote from Mom – so had to scrub it down – I’m sure you’re not going to be in bed & respect the room – no time w/ me w/ you!
Have made some plans re: Christmas – and all I can say is that prepare yourself for anything said, done, etc. by any of the relatives.
After cleaned at home came down to visit w/ Carole & ended up helping bake 6 Christmas cakes for her Mom – think I’m a good deeder or something. Sharon (her sister) was here so we (the 4 of us) played cards for 3 hours – Carole & I got beat in crib.
Had a fairly busy day at work to-day, but not too bad.
Weather great and hardly seems like Christmas is so near.
Had to tell Mom that I got her a hat to-day – it has been bothering her since last week that someone bought that hat she liked so well and to-day she even brought a new one home – so finally had to tell her – she sure was happy.

Wow Mom, 20 days and you’ll be reunited with Dad . . . embracing each other in the squeaky clean front bedroom with the horizontal shades drawn and the Christmas lights flickering against the neutral-coloured walls while you both measure up that hat. And then onto the next countdown – to when your husband and wife – Zowie!

Sweet darling
You can leave your hat on
