Love Letter 38 – Made Some Time
Love Letter 38 – Made Some Time
Spring hesitates passing the torch to summer during this sharp and soggy June day. Without hesitation, I trade in my pickleball paddle and balls for my writing essentials: love letter, journal, pens, reading glasses, bombshell lip crayon, cell phone and begin the trek to Platform 7 around muddied puddles and billowing construction covers. I quicken my pace along the final uphill stretch, over angled steps and through the double door finish line of the corner cafe. I pass through the waft of freshly brewed coffee and recently baked muffins and consider – how many organic peanut butter cookies are too many?
I retreat to a windowless back booth and warm to the musical notes of Maxwell and the flirty dialogue of Mom’s Love Letter 38:

Hi Honey!
How I love you, my dear!
Just read your letter over for the second time – wonderful to hear from you & to hear that you’re working on that damn thesis – so pleased to have it off our minds.
Certainly too bad I wasn’t in the car w/ you, honey for 1/2 hour – could have “made some time,” eh – but those cold hands of yours – wow.
How was the Disraeli Freeway – slippery at all?
It certainly is too bad dear that we aren’t spending this week-end together but honey we’ll have a lifetime together, sounds fabulous!
Am glad that I’m off tomorrow as had a fairly busy day to-day – had 3 patients left until 6 o’clock which isn’t always likely.
Work w/ one doctor Dr Smithen now – we get along real fine – thank goodness he doesn’t bark at me too often.
He has a lot of patients tho’ – especially young newlyweds – and new mothers – takes a great deal of time to talk to them.
Talking about newlyweds, Dr Wilson had a wee chat w/ me and will more than likely get my complete physical and medical next month – gave me a book to read (for you and me) – very detailed illustrations, etc – very good articles.
He was the doctor that looked after Auntie Jean and so often comes & has a chat w/ me (father of 7 boys) – married to a nurse, too – they don’t have any twins tho’, dear.
Hope you have a good curling game dear – and good luck to you all.
May just “sub” now & then when they need me – they start curling next week on artificial ice, but not worth my while to pay curling fees for the season and miss out on the bonspiels – bonspiels are always great fun.
Ha, I’m thinking it doesn’t matter whether you and Dad are driving down the Disraeli Freeway in the ‘green hornet,’ motoring to Grand Beach in a yellow VW beetle or cruising Portage Avenue in a candy apple red Mustang – there’ll always be room to make some time!
If it’s cool we can do a little sumthin’ sumthin’
