Love Letter 28 – Friday Night
Love Letter 28 – Friday Night
I exchange high-spirited weekend street gossip with internal, meditative 5th chakra affirmations while descending the cement stairs to the shared walkway and onto the Italian designed tiles leading into the cozy surroundings of suite 1969. I trade-in my bobobark backpack for my Thai elephant embroidered bag and begin digging around for several blue bic ballpoints, a thinly-lined journal and the delicately aging 28th envelope. I flip on Katie Tupper’s Misbehavin’ and slip easily, wholeheartedly into the continuing pages of Mom’s Love Letter 28:

Hi Dear –
Here I am waiting for my wash to dry and having a cig and a drink of Pepsi – how very exciting for a Friday night.
Anything doing up north?
The weather is really fabulous to-day – over 75 degrees and going to 85 degrees tomorrow.
And here I am w/ very little to wear – especially in the line of shorts, etc – guess just throw a bath towel around me tomorrow and lay out at the pool.
Evidently will be cooling down in a couple of days.
Honey, write and tell me how the weather is in Winnipeg – any snow? ha!
Had a better sleep to-day nearly 6 hours so feel much more rested.
Received your letter to-day dear w/ the tickets – thanx –
You should have seen the look on my face when I took out Ernestine’s letter – nearly had it opened when I realized it was hers.
She really bugged me – said you’d written a confidential note that she’d discarded before I read it – a nut.
She is much better now, but hasn’t heard from her family since she wrote to tell them she’s coming home.
Got a letter from Mom – Gran not too bad, but needs rest – she never complains.
Also got a letter from the people I know in Bermuda – anxious to have us drop down and visit them some day.
Well dear am nearly ready to leave now – as I mentioned before did my washing and washed some sweaters – so all I have left to do is pack.
Spent my last Friday in California for some years –
Only 6 more nites left – oh honey can hardly wait to see you.
Can you believe it – I get a goodnight kiss a week from now – Zowie.
Well dear was over to United and all is fairly settled – they’ll phone me on Monday and confirm everything.
Hello to all.
I love you so so much!!
Yours always,
Bette xxxx
Chopp – Chopp!!
P.S. Real cute that you slipped in I love you in your business report you wrote me –
I love you too, dear.
Yours, Bette xx
Six more sleeps and an international flight will more than cure your lackluster (final) Friday night in California, Mom.
I can hardly believe you’re 6 nights away from a goodnight kiss with Dad – double Zowie!!
I want more (I want more)
