Love Letter 22 – Pouring Rain
Love Letter 22 – Pouring Rain
The heavy autumn rainfall persists outside the double pained window as summer swiftly slips away. I redirect my attention from today’s waterlogged outdoors – favouring the cozy comfort of Berkeley, California October, 1960 in Mom’s continuing Love Letter 22:

4:30 pm – Wednesday:
We all watched T.V. last nite and off to bed before the late movie.
We had Mary Kaye’s car so went for a short drive before supper yesterday – and inquired re: the plane trip back on Nov 25th – here dear are the final details:
My flight Nov 25/60

AR. Seattle 11:10 A.M.

Now I can send you the money stat (right away – nurses’ talk) when I hear from you –
We talked it over w/ United Air Lines and said all is fine – they will call us again in 3 days so confirm our flight right thru’.
Also Ernie will send you her money if you give the word.
Her flight will be identical until Vancouver – but she will not leave Vancouver until Nov 27 – Sunday at 12:15 p – non stop flight arriving in Winnipeg at 4:40 p. (flight #870?).
The price he gave us

61.00 (Vancouver – Wpg)
109.70 We’ll send you $110 each.
Anxious to hear from you regarding this dear, hope this doesn’t confuse you or take up too much of your time.
Thank you –
We’re all settled now regarding leaving so only 7 more weeks, honey!
To-day have kept busy around the apartment – did an enormous amount of ironing to-day then cleaned the apartment – so looks like home again.
Had a beer and watched the 3 pm movie – real sad – here I was sitting w/ tears in my eyes – very good tho –
Got a letter from Mom to-day – one of the kids informed her that she is resigning at the end of this month at the Company Hospital and wanted to know if I wanted to come right back & work –
Well honey – I believe I’ll still stay until Nov 25 – too much confusion getting time off around Christmas and I so much want to be w/ you then – there is always work at the General Hospital at home too – so all is fine.
Well dear will close now.
Love you as always
Yours always,
Bette xxxxx
Chopp – Chopp!
P.S. Guess what, it’s really pouring rain right now.
P.P.S. Inquired re: express rates yesterday too – $19.00/100 lbs – Winnipeg.
If you have another spare second dear could you inquire in Wpg – how much it will cost to ship a trunk from Wpg – Flin Flon as I’ll be sending my trunk right through and they have no idea of rates to F. F. down here, they think I’m crazy just mentioning the name –
Bette xxxx
Pouring rain suggests autumn’s arrival in the Berkeley Bay Area, which means the countdown is on with ‘only 7 more weeks’ – and several connections – until she’s with her honey again!
Here comes the rain again . . .
