Love Letter 6 – Roommates

Love Letter 6 – Roommates

Conversations of the day fade away and notifications are quickly silenced as I lean back into 1960, digesting the remaining content of Mom’s Love Letter 6:

Sure missed those roommates of mine, should arrive back tomorrow – hardly quiet around that apartment.
Did get a fair amount of cleaning done, washing & ironing, etc.
Cut out some clippings from the Chronicle. Herb Caen is sure getting a blast now about his article re: “Psycho” so I sent it to you. I’ll tell you if anything should arise from it.
And of course Peanuts requests he be sent to you faithfully. He is going to appear on T.V. in some form Thurs nite – guess best I watch him.
Weather wise it has been fairly great – even tho’ I miss most of the sun.
Have been sleeping out at the pool 2 hours a day so am getting some of my tan back.
Other than that dear Berkeley remains unchanged.
Just might call up Pat and Frank tomorrow and see if they have definite intentions to see Johnny Mathis and see if they want me to babysit for them – as I have Friday nite off – otherwise will call up the Tysons and see how they are.
How are you dear – getting around to see many of your old friends, etc etc or are you settled at home yet –
Do you see Ginny at all?
Do say hello to everyone for me please and tell them I’m very envious of them having you there.
I really miss you dear and am awaiting a reply from mom (inquiring about a job in F.F.) – I’ll be lonely anywhere that I am unless I’m w/ you honey.
Maybe it’s better I stay here and try and save money – while on nite duty.
I love you Bryan and can only wait until we’re together again and talk over the years of the future – (over).
Everything I do reminds me of places we’ve been or some comment you’ve made – you’re on my mind constantly.
The week-ends seem much worse than the week days at times, guess because we always did something those days – a show or over to the city.
I came so very close to phoning you yesterday (Sun) – but thought you would probably be out for Sunday supper at one of your sisters.
Give me an idea of what vicinity you’ll be in next Sunday and maybe I can call you direct okay – even hearing you talk to me would be so very wonderful – (also write your phone no. – already!).
I love you honey.
Yours always,
Love Bette

Chopp – Chopp!!

Night shifts fill only so many hours in a day Mom and those darn lengthy September weekends are toying with your hungering heart. The ‘silence’ will soon be broken with returning roommates charging through the apartment door, swelling the room with excited shrills, girlish giggles and playful prancing – just as roommates do!

Yes, unfortunate but. loneliness has set in this week. Although next weekends telephone conversation should be extremely comforting to Bette.
