Love Letter 69 – Her Prayers

Love Letter 69 – Her Prayers

I inhale the sweet leafy sharpness of early morning grooming of the adjacent baseball diamonds as I round every lap of the sun splashed track. My pace slows, if that’s even possible, as I take it all in – ah, the sweet scents of springtime.
I venture home, zigzagging around another sure sign of the changing season, construction, and eventually reach Saltaire condos and my comfortable, cozy corner within suite 306. The Bocellis share harmonies from my iPad’s speaker as I fall back into another Flin Flon winter evening, 1961 with Mom’s idyllic Love Letter 69:

Tuesday 10:30 pm.

Hi Honey!
I love you dear so very much!
How do you like the new stationery – out of writing paper so Don left me some (I’m really not retrogressing at all, but need lines to follow now).
It seems 10:30 & 11:00 pm are our hours to write to each other, but then it is just before we go to our own beds, and soon our own bed together.
Only 17 more days my love.
Truthfully I’ll be glad when its over, dear because I’m getting a bit tired out – in no way real fatigued, but every noon hour I have about 2 – 3 places to go which leaves me about 20 mins at home (time for a quick cup of tea) then after supper at 6 and dishes finished about 7 pm the evening is well started (and then the next 5 evenings I have somewhere to go).
Tomorrow my day off thought I’d sleep in until at least 10 then pack my trunk, but Suzan is spending the nite here as she has a 9 A.M. hair appointment so I’ll be up again about 8:30 to take her there.
Really cute tho’ – she wanted me to put her to bed before I went out and so after I kissed her good nite she said she had to say her prayers – so down on her knees she went & in her prayer – she talked of you (really took a glow to you dear, but so did I).
Mom is giving a home permanent to-nite — so kinda smells around here.
Rather lousy to-day actually – the only good thing being your letter my love — thought maybe I was coming down w/ appendicitis. Have had a pain down my right side all day and still persisting, but not as severe — so maybe it will be gone by tomorrow — After your letter am going right to bed, no need to worry, dear as healthy as an ox.
Am having Sandra & Harry over for supper tomorrow nite (think I’ll just put some steaks, baked spuds on, etc).
Then Mom & I are invited out to visit some friends down in Willowvale.
Thursday – busy.
Friday am trying on my gown – it’s nearly all complete now – just love it!
Harry is coming over to see me w/ my veil, etc on as he won’t be here for our wedding. (He might take a few pics so he says).
Everyone else is in pretty fair shape.
Hello from the north country.
At one of the showers dear there were several slides taken so will get a couple prints.
Wish right now we were sitting quietly in our apartment, just sitting around or watching T.V. – will get some sleep this week end.
I miss you so very much dear.
Any curling lately? Wins?
How is ‘our thesis,’ dear?
Nothing too much new happening – I’m busy most of the time.
That’s really grand, dear to keep the gifts down there – have no idea how we’ll get the gifts from here down there — 5 boxes in our front room right now (kitchen & crystal shower).
Doug has sent his measurements & no doubt they will be there when you get my letter.
That’s a wonderful gift from Mrs. Chester. Auntie Bertha’s address is correct dear – agreed – they’d like to see the clock.
Well my dear, will close now & go off to bed to dream about you.
Seen the apartment lately?
Finished yet?
I love you more than anything.
How lucky I am to have such a wonderful guy.
‘Nite dear.
Hello to all!
Yours always,
Bette
XXXX
Can’t even spell anymore.
My mind so confused.
I’m numb now.
Love always.
Chopp Chopp!!

How sweet of cousin Susan including Dad in her prayers – I’m speculating she’s not the only one, eh Mom?!
Your dreams and prayers, on the other hand, are undoubtedly exclusive blessings . . . Amen to them all.

Fall on me
With open arms
