Love Letter 68 – Madhouse

Love Letter 68 – Madhouse

Spring has sprung in the quaint beach town bordering Blaine, Washington – with her cherry blossoms budding, sailboats streaming across her Salish Sea and spring breaking students filling street sidewalks and noisy coffee cafes. I catch the infectious spring spirit with the warmth of the late afternoon rays spilling through panelled windows, the timely tunes of Will Downing and the continued intimacy of Mom’s January, 1961 Love Letter 68:

Last nite Sandy came over again and we went to the hockey game (lousy game) then to a house warming party at Ethel & Bud’s. (Ethel & Bud, Angus & Nan Tabak, Doreen & Glen Bawler, Carl & Jackie (nurse & radio announcer) & Sandy & I.
Lucky Sandy – Harry came home last nite (from Grand Forks) for 10 days.
So again I felt so lonely, but kept telling myself that in 3 weeks dear, I hope I can make you so very happy as I will be.
Everyone was in a real punchy mood & sang, danced until after 5 in the morning.
Oh what a nut you’re marrying.
They told me so many bride & groom stories my head was ready to burst.
Had a good time in that Bud enjoyed himself so much – he seldom gets feeling too good & especially dancing (he danced for nearly an hour) Ethel crazy too —
Just have to get rid of some of my frustration I guess.
Sorry indeed I didn’t get to church to-day.
Harry gave Sandra an engagement ring last nite (hardly much excitement). They will be waiting several years tho – as she’s just 18 and wants to take a business course (Wpg) & work a year – that will leave only 1 yr. left for Harry (university).
Guess we really started something, dear everyone’s in love!
Curly came over at 10 this morning so Mom & I ended up babysitting for the 3 children for over 6 hours (hardly a madhouse) – by 3 o’clock there were 11 people here (typical Sunday, again).
Edna (our soloist) came over and sang about 5 selections – really lovely dear, hope you’ll like my choice of the songs she is going to sing.
Honey – thank you so much for the shoes – they are the right ones – nearly ready for the garbage, but white and comfortable and my gown is long.
Gran Nisbet & Uncle Charlie (Stonewall) sent us 15.00 to get something for our new home — oh honey, I’m excited wish you were w/ me so much!!
Dear, I have one more task – this is one reason of the many why I love you — you do so much for me without too much complaining.
Another lunch hour of yours contributed to our wedding serviettes (wedding napkins) (cocktail size sufficient).
It would take over 2 weeks or so to order any from here & their selection is nil.
Honey, I leave it up to you.
You could drop over to Coutts card shop & inquire & order (I’ll pay you for them when you get here).
Would need at least 200.
If you see any that we could have our names (Bette – Bryan Feb 18/61) on w/ good writing or if you see any you like w/ a bride & groom on – anything!
You can bring them w/ you when you come.
Half the people won’t even look at them anyway.
Nice picture of you dear in the I.T.T.E. newsletter – how come my picture was in there – what degree did I get?
I know of one I’ll be getting in 19 days tho – not a Masters, but MRS. (Wowee!)
As I re-read my letter to you (which I seldom do) I only wonder how you can make out this mass of confusion.
There’s so much to talk about I never know what to say next — But well you know how I can ramble on & on anyhow.
How is our apartment — any opportunity to see if it’s progressing enough to live in in 3 weeks time?
How is everyone at your home?
Hello to all.
The letter I got via you dear was from Rene’s Gift Shop Wpg. — I guess much mail now from stores in your city.
By the way dear were you listening to the 8 o’clock news (Sun.) – interesting item – some fellow (Dr.) in San Fran has discovered a new drug (or something like that?) that will be able to brain wash a whole city at once or so they said – this drug (?) affects the individual by increasing his power of suggestion — need yours be increased in any way?
What would you suggest dear when we’re together??
Will close now dear. I love you so very much.
Bye now.
Yours always,
Bette XXXXXX
XXXXXXX
Chopp – Chopp!!
Please list your favourite foods so I can practice while at home, eh.
Always all my love!
Honey it would be real nice for Sandy if you send an engagement – congrats! – card to them.
She’s so excited – it’s wonderful – Miss Sandy Devine 34 Phelan Flin Flon.

I can’t help but wonder what will be more of a madhouse, Mom – the next 19 action-packed days of frolicking family OR the ‘power of suggested’ shenanigans once you’ve mastered your “MRS” title – Wowee!!

What you do to me is hypnotic
I can’t wait to feel the warmth of you
