Love Letter 68 – Trousseau
Love Letter 68 – Trousseau
Yesterday’s stresses are all but squashed as the sun slowly rises from behind neighbouring snowcapped Mount Baker and as the hurried weekday travellers are silenced by the sweet serenading songbirds perched high above in the bordering evergreens. I lose myself in the perpetual pounding of soles and the deep rhythmic breathing as I circle the athletic track around and then around once more.
Internal calm carries into the late afternoon as I lounge cradled in the oatmeal recliner listening to the silvery sounds of H.E.R. and sinking into the gushing pages of Mom’s continuing Love Letter 68:

Sat (day off)
Sorry dear never got near the writing pad to-day, so here I am now (Sun. 8 p.m.)
Stayed in bed rather late yesterday, then got up and cleaned the house a bit. Met Mom uptown and purchased a few articles, veil & headdress of my own.
A wedding book (for our guests, etc) really like it.
It has different pages designated for certain things (our romance, engagement, honeymoon, etc), have put a few things down on scratch paper, but am leaving the final printing up to you, my love so it will be done real well.
Another project to be done in our spare time. Think we’re going to be pretty busy for awhile, eh?!!
Have kept rather late hours this week-end tho’ dear.
Friday nite Sandy (DeVine) (Harry’s girl) phoned to say she was real lonely so told her to best drop up & visit another lonely one — so she came up & looked thru’ my trousseau (nighties, slips, etc etc) (which is all for my dear).
Then we went down to the bowling alley & I ended up keeping score for the 10 pinners – (Ethel, Bud & crew). Then after bowling Sandy, Ethel, Bud, Angus and Nan Tabak & another married friend dropped over to the curling club room (rather packed after w/ bonspiel). So we sat, drank beer, told jokes and ended up having Chinese food at 3 in the morning.
I get so damn lonely for you — only wish you were alone & I’d phone you (better actually (Mom J is home) as I want to tell you so often how much I love you, dear!!).
Hardly miss you dear – every second in the middle of the conversation at the rink I roared – (over – out of paper again -) only 20 more days! – Now everyone I meet is counting days w/ us.
A couple of lonely girls pining for their lovers – don’t I know that picture all too well. But I’m right here with you now, Mom – roaring through the next 20 days. And to think in a mere twenty one days your bridal trousseau will have quite the life outside the hangers, drawers and closets . . . Zowie!
If life is a movie
Then you’re the best part, oh oh oh
