Vigorous vines wrestle around leaning tree trunks, upward to outreaching leaves now acting as my shaded oasis just outside Islands Café. I settle into the cushioned bistro chair with my green matcha tea latte and my bobo bark backpack stuffed with journals, pens and love letters. The combined sounds of passing street goers and squawking, soaring seagulls are drowned out by Mayer’s melody and Mom’s liveliness within the continuing pages of Love Letter 52, December, 1960:

Listen honey – have we still got our California license plates on the ‘green hornet’ – might as well keep them on for a couple more weeks or are you a true bred Canuck now?
Cigarette break: – have been smoking far too much this past while, but will cut down after we’re married.
You should be around to help us move the Killicks (Ethel & Bud).
I carried over 5 boxes of food just before I came down.
Tomorrow is the final moving day.
Stan (painter friend of ours) painted Don’s room this morning.
Gracious, now we’ve cleaned every corner of our wee home – come on up!
You’ll think you were the sanitary inspector or such – everything’s being cleaned, washed & polished because Bryan’s coming.
Besides the cleaning spree – everyone is preparing jokes, pranks & novelty gifts for you, too – so please prepare yourself.
Oh hurray – only 13 more days – 9 more working days till I see you again lover – hardly excited at all.
We’re sure going to be a busy pair at the end of this month, furniture & apartment hunting – sure hope we don’t find it too hard to find a place.
Will order the invitations & announcements on Monday, dear – you’re selection was perfect – my decision too, something plain but nice.
Nothing too exciting happening around Flin Flon lately – we won the hockey game to-nite tho’ 2-1.

Have my final dental appointment on Wed A.M. – a cleaning job and the bill (should prove interesting).
Also have a doctor’s appt. for a medical in the afternoon – testing & checking to see if you’re getting a healthy woman.
No doubt be getting another thorough medical check-up on Feb 18th too – eh, doctor?!
Everyone is fairly good at home – Gran still has her pretty poor days – her feet cause her a lot of discomfort, but she’s always ready to give us our warning to behave.
Hope the roads stay in good condition, dear but all the salesmen that drive up here seem fairly satisfied w/ them.
Got all my Christmas cards addressed now so that’s one more job done.
There’s Bobby – guess I better close soon.
10-min break: – he had to have a drink of milk then back to bed – will you be satisfied w/ a drink of milk, dear when you wake up during the nite?!! – an answer, please.
Well lover, I miss you as always and can only wait until we’re together again.
Only hope I have made & arranged the wedding plans alright so far.
There certainly is enough to think about!
Can just see us now – if we have 6 daughters – better start saving something like 6 x $600 – $1200 for weddings, plus an education.
By the way, dear do believe Ethel & Bud are seriously thinking about buying us that pic (G.G. Bridge) for our wedding.
At least it was mentioned again to-day – to have it put away, but will find out definitely in the very near future & tell you dear.
