Love Letter 42 – 18 Lake
Love Letter 42 – 18 Lake
I can’t be sure what’s leaving more of an impression on my delicate tatas – the minor skin irritation from weekend boob tape or the persisting compression from my annual mammogram. Nevertheless, nothing compares to basking in recent magically, memorable moments of love, laughter and family celebration!
The pleasantly cooling August morning and the harmonies of Sister Sledge sway me into November 1960 with the tender, timeless handwritten pages of Mom’s Love Letter 42:
At home – Nov.18/60 9pm.
Hi Honey!
Here it is another week-end coming up & I only wish it were Monday instead – another lonely, lonely Saturday.
Will be mailing this tomorrow on my way to work so if I should hear from you tomorrow I’ll not be answering any questions you might ask – comprenez-vous?
Never made it home for lunch to-day as I met Mom downtown on her day-off and did a bit of shopping.
Got you a couple things for Christmas you’ll never guess what they could be – hope you’ll enjoy them.
Not much time to shop w/ having Wed. & Sunday off (stores closed) and starting next Wed. will be off to the dentist’s office – great fun.
Always something to think about – who knows maybe I’ll need false teeth – will wait until we’re married tho’ so I won’t have to put my false teeth on the dresser on our wedding night.
Can you imagine dear 3 months from to-day – not long you know.
How is work going?
How is your thesis coming along?
How is everyone in Winnipeg?
Hello to everyone, dear!
All the folk at 18 Lake are pretty fair – Gran has been doing a fair amount of sewing lately – quilts or something like that – her feet bother her a great deal, but nothing to worry you dear.
At times it doesn’t seem like Christmas next month, but have played several long play records of Christmas Carols – gee it will be wonderful to be in each others arms listening to records, etc. etc. – I love you so, Bryan.
Have the bowling picture up on the dresser – so great to look over at you often – mind you I look like I’ve really worked hard – great bowling that nite ‘specially the last game.
The whole crew off to the local hockey game, but Gran & I are at home.
Was out for supper right after work now am getting caught up on some letter writing – and after the hockey game am meeting the crew at the bowling alley for 10 pins.
Tomorrow nite am baby-sitting for my cousin’s 3 kiddies and try & finish my Christmas cards.
Next week have to bake the Christmas cake – Gran puts everything in, but I just mix and stir as Gran’s arms are too weak for that.
Haven’t been to a show since I came home, mainly because I’ve either seen them before or not interested.
Last show I saw was in Berkeley (correction: Oakland) w/ Carol Hardy – meaning one show in the past 2 1/2 mos.
Nothing too much going on dear – after dishes are done & such after work it’s nearly 7 o’clock & I’m on my way out the door.
Must do some serious visiting next week before Dec. comes & I’ll get nothing done.
We’ll be together in 5 weeks, honey how does that sound! Oh so very wonderful – I miss you, my darling!
Ah, Mom I hear the crackling of repeated Christmas LPs – Elvis, Johnny Mathis, Brenda Lee and ol’ blue eyes, Frank Sinatra – while catching the scents of cinnamon + mixed spice from the cooling Christmas cake, amid the bantering and chattering of family folk around the kitchen table at 18 Lake.
We are family . . .
Get up everybody and sing!
