Love Letter 38 – Aptitude Test
Love Letter 38 – Aptitude Test
The long-awaited appearance of the pale orange tinted globe scatters early evening beams of light through a thin curtain of non-threatening cumulus clouds and onto the sky-reaching herbal garden of fragrant basil, parsley and chives. Passersby congregate out front Casereccio contemplating a preprandial gelato or Sicilian-roasted cappuccino. I balance my steamed beverage, mouth-watering pastry and water glass through the potential patrons and continue sidestepping along the adjacent patio to the end bistro table for one. Jamiroquai’s jazzy funk fades out as I rejoin Mom’s wintery world of Flin Flon, 1960 in her continuing handwritten pages of Love Letter 38:

Have gone over the majority of the aptitude test you sent me – have seen some of those questions before, but they sure are tricky – what happens if I get under 15 correct, still marry me, dear?
About the letter marked #2, dear I thought you’d get 2 letters in one day and you wouldn’t know which one to read first, but guess you received them alright.
I never know when you’re going to get the mail I send, probably takes a couple of days to get down South.
Thought that joke re: the great hunter was cute – so Eth is sending you one now – man does it ever look like you!! – she put the smiles on our faces –
Also read the one (joke) on the back regarding the bra size – talking about measurements.
Have had my wee chat w/ Addie (head of the clinic) re: my resigning in February – so that is straight in her mind.
Also about New Years – so far fairly definitely have Dec 27, 28 (Wed my day off anyway), 29, 30, 31, Jan 1 Sun (my day off) and maybe Jan 2 – there are several wanting this time off, but she is getting someone to work for me – and the other kids have to get their own help.
Not sure about Christmas – it would be so wonderful if you had any intention of coming up w/ Albert for several days – 1. give you a chance to meet a few of the clan so that in Feb it wouldn’t be a complete strange crew, 2. be able to send some stuff back w/ you (records, etc.), 3. I’d be able to drive back w/ you, 4. save me a couple more days of work – will be losing at least 5 days pay anyway – Boy, will I be glad when we’re married and save together.
Am driving down to Cranberry (45 miles South) w/ Uncle Gus tomorrow for a few hours then to the local hockey game w/ Carole Wright.
My nite out on the town.
Well honey will close now and have a good week-end – I miss you so very much, I wish you were here w/ me.
I love you!
Bye for now.
Yours always,
Bette xxxxxxxx
Chopp – Chopp!!
The ‘joke’ in mention is supplied in a gags for guys cartoon, ripped from the pages of a sign of the times mini magazine: A “just married” groom (we’ll call Bryan) is frantically running on water while carrying his new bride (we’ll call Bette) over the threshold – of the Motel’s swimming pool – towards the Motel room.
The
perfect marriage aptitude test – good grief, Mom?!
Besides, these love letters are the true premarital test . . . and you’re clearly passing with flying colours!
Whoa, it’s a crazy world we’re living in
