Love Letter 36 – Invitation List
Love Letter 36 – Invitation List
Engagement announcements and wedding dates fill the days with elevated elation, utter delight, dizzying love and an occasional blunder – oh, the joy of planning a wedding.
The weekend weather ends as it began – partly cloudy with slim chances of sunshine. I secure my bobobark backpack and traipse outside along the tree-lined, slanted sidewalks of Kitsilano, passing partially utilized playgrounds and parks, rows of townhomes, condo complexes and surviving boutique storefronts. I end up wandering into the nearest Bean’s and mimic the sentiment of the patron ahead of me: “I need a cookie!”
I settle for a seat in the corner of the coffee shop with a view of flowering foliage and passersby. I begin a futile attempt at fluffing up the well worn padded bench cushions, prop up a lumbar pillow and ease into the cool vibe of Lenny Kravitz and the wondering words of Mom’s Love Letter 36, November, 1960:
Flin Flon Clinic
12:30 pm Tues.
Hi Honey!
Will start a letter while I have about 15 mins. to sit down and await someone to relieve me for dinner.
What a day!
Donnie (the nurse I work w/) had her day off to-day and what a time I had.
Every second person had to be completely examined which means I have to be w/them when the doctor is – and it does take a bit of time.
Drew blood from about 6 people and multi other tests – great fun.
Oh I HATE WORK!
Who says that – actually it’s not too bad, dear but I’m still learning different doctor’s routines and can get a little frustrating when I forget some minute item and get a blast.
But who gets frustrated? – Wow, Feb 18th. Wish as I always do that you were here.
Wouldn’t it be great even if we worked in the same city and you could drop over and visit me every nite –
I sure don’t know when I thought I’d get anything done.
Guess I forgot what type of family I had and there always seems to be someone paying us a visit.
Have some business letters to write to-nite for sure (social security refunds I hope – to Minnesota & California) then will write to the Grace Hospital re: information regarding employment as Mrs. B.K. Johnston – I enjoy writing that, honey.
Guess it’s mainly because I love you so –
We now have the church and etc. hall for the reception – and the main thing now being to hire an orchestra.
The hall isn’t fancy – you’ll have to get used to F.F. – nothing like your city but I hope the reception is a jolly one.
Attempting to try and decide on an invitation list – & what a task.
Have you thought any of your list dear – ask your Mom (also ask her about the announcement idea).
Any further arrangements of John’s and John’s getting up north to F.F.?
Oh the joy of it all huh, Mom – securing
wedding and reception venues, travel arrangements for guests, hiring an orchestra, etc, etc. Nevermind the dizzying decisions (and family input) revolved around the invitation list?!
‘cause baby it ain’t over ’til it’s over
