Love Letter 35 – Donuts

Love Letter 35 – Donuts

I trade in my cozy, well worn woolen slippers for my equally comfortable cariuma canvas sneakers and begin trekking down Maple Street to West 4th for a Lucky’s doughnut, or two. I’m displaying conditioned signs similar to Pavlov’s dogs while dreaming of the gooey goodness of freshly baked triple chocolate doughnuts and eagerly quicken my pace over uprooted sidewalks and four-way stops in attempts of averting further culinary salivary reflexes. I’m oblivious to neighbouring dialogues and goings-on once seated comfortably on the patio bench adjacent to 49th Parallel Coffee Roaster’s parking lot and instantly surrender to all my senses within Mom’s Love Letter 35:

Hi Honey!
Home for lunch & thought I best get a letter started or just might get a blast from my loved one since you only got one letter last week – sorry, dear.
Made about 50 dozen donuts last nite and heard the latest school gossip – man did I ever feel ancient. Don is silly, as ever.
Home and clean-up-nite honey & you know what that entails now – shave legs, bath, etc. etc.
Another Monday & I wish it were Friday and another week closer to be w/ you.
What a lazy week this is tho’ – Am off Wed, Friday & Sunday so leaves only 4 workdays – easy.
But as I mentioned before I prefer bedside nursing – even tho’ you really feel like an office girl w/ straight hours in the clinic.
Everyone is in pretty fair shape at home, dear.
I’m gaining weight, damn it – so will try & cut down this week.
You certainly don’t want a fat wife do you?
But everyone has decided to bake these past few days and w/ homemade buns, pies and cake, how can anyone lose an ounce.
Gran not too bad, but is in bed most of the time.
I miss you, honey and wish we could just run downtown for a coffee date.
I love you, Bryan!!

Good Lord Mom – 50 dozen donuts?!
I suppose there’s no sense stopping at just one or even two dozen donuts – it’s hard to beat good gossip and the mouth-watering goodness of steaming, circular confectionery.  Although, sneaking downtown for a coffee date with Dad sounds most tantalizing.

One thing that I know
You gotta let your colours show
