Love Letter 27 – Punchy
Love Letter 27 – Punchy
I realize instantly that I’ve misjudged my lightweight jogging attire while zigzagging around the deeply puddled, worm-infested track. A small group of cheerful water-soaked toddlers begin arriving for spring break soccer camps and immediately take over the show – and my complete attention – as they scurry aimlessly around the inner field like misplaced circus clowns.
Once home and comfortably dry to the core, I nestle into the curved ultra suede armchair, lean into the Himalayan salt lamp’s amber glow and the faint sounds of Chaka Khan as I dive into the zesty pages of Mom’s Love Letter 27:

Darling!
How wonderful to hear you on the telephone again last nite.
Was real surprised and a little confused at first – best I say “punchy” also.
Guess am just getting too excited about getting back – oh dear only 7 more working nites – can you believe it?
Can hardly wait to have you beside me – best I be careful tho’ am afraid my resistance might be rather low at this time.
Phoned the Air Lines after we finished talking and now have everything arranged so don’t worry, dear.
Will be there one week Friday and what time I don’t know, but will send word beforehand.
Can hardly write about it – cause just so happy thinking about it – I love you so very much.
Honey it’s only been 7 weeks we’ve been apart and it seems like 7 years!!
Hope everyone is fine in Winnipeg – hello to everyone.
As I said on the phone got all the heavy things away via express so don’t have much packing left.
Must try and get some sleep now tho’ – as had very little the past week or so – guess I averaged 3-4 hours per day only so will get caught up now.
Had a great time w/ the Tysons in Palo Alto – what a great pair – we laughed and talked continually (continuously).
They sure managed to spoil me in the 2 days I was there.
We went visiting Wed. eve before they drove me back to Berkeley.
Visited the daughter and grandchildren – a truly lovely family.
I sure took some bugging from them re: marrying you – they gave quite a bit of profitable info – not really, but real interesting – so you better be careful, dear.
Sure spoiled by Marty’s car (1961 blue Ford) runs very nice – she thought she’d leave her car w/ me for the week-end (going to L.A.) but I thought something might happen – so left it alone – sure saved a lot of time in getting around, but also dear am anxious to drive the “Green Hornet” ( I bet she’s awaiting my driving also – maybe I can manage to kill the motor several times).
Am going to be busy this next week tho’ – Going to Jean & Mary Kaye’s on Tues – Wednesday out for Chinese food w/ Marty & possibly a 1/2 dozen of R.N.s – should have fun (farewell celebration).
Also must get over to Pat & Frank’s too.
Oh honey am I ever excited – can you imagine what we’ll be like when it’s nearing our wedding day.
Gee I wish we didn’t have 6 months to wait for April 29th – that’s an awful long time.
Seven weeks
apart may feel like an excruciating seven years Mom, but a mere 7 more work nights are definitely within your loving arm’s reach – as are delectable moments filled with surprises, some confusion and being playfully punchy.
Oh sweet thing
Don’t you know you’re my everything
