Love Letter 24 – xxxxxxxx

Love Letter 24 – XXXXXXXX

I brush through my dishevelled, wavy shoulder length hair, tint my full lips with bombshell red and spritz the heavenly fragrance of Chanel No 5 across my glistening bare clavicles – Botti’s trumpet wanes in the darkened corner of the media room as I longingly soar onto cloud nine with Mom’s Love Letter 24:

Apt #102 2331 Blake
Berkeley, California
Oct 7/60 – 8:30 pm

Hi Bryan Dear!
Here I am dear just finished supper and it’s quiet around here.
To-nite is another debate between Nixon – Kennedy on T.V. – have watched and listened to them for the past hour.
Guess I will miss the elections tho’ on the 8th of next month, but all I know is I’ll be w/ You, honey.
This is how I like to write to you sitting alone and just talking to you.
So sorry that I have confused you so very badly, but my mind has been so confused myself – every time I make a move I only wish you were w/ me to help make a decision – but all is real fine now – will be w/ you 2 weeks from to-nite.
I love you, Bryan so very much!!
Your mother must surely think you are really going to marry a dandy? – but wait till I see you.
The letter you’ll get before this one is real poor – can hardly make out the writing, but am sure you’ll make out alright.
If you run into any real confusion dear – phone me anytime – Sunday probably the best.
Wish I had had the “Green Hornet” w/ me to-day, dear.
Had a number of errands to do – left #102 about 2 pm and got home at 7 pm.
Went to the bank and got your money ready and sent it on its way.
Then to the Airlines, and paid gas, telephone, bills, etc.
Got everything ready and should be nearly packed and the express will come and pick up my trunk, etc on Tuesday.
Then I’ll have very little to do until I leave.
But this whole week will be full of activities.
Mon: to Carole Hardy’s for supper
Tue: over to Bobby and Mary Jo’s
Wed & Thur – off to Palo Alto to visit w/ the Tysons
Then who knows.
Mary Kaye, Joan and I are going to the Cal – Washington football game tomorrow afternoon so will see one game of the season.
The Japanese nurse (Marty) I work w/ is really great to me.
Said I could use her car anytime to drive around for my last minute errands – even tho’ it is a new 1960 Ford so will drive it Tues – but that’s all – don’t worry, dear.
Marty is driving me to the airport Friday morning too so all will be fine – think Mary Jo & Bobby are going over to the airport also.
Oh honey, get so excited every time I think of being w/ you again, my love.
All I know is I need you and am so lucky to have you for my own – I love you, dear.
Yours always,
Bette xxxxx
Chopp – Chopp!!

And on the flip side:
I LOVE YOU BRYAN!
Chopp-Chopp

Oh, how I’ve ached for our return to 1960, Mom. And just so you know – this too is how I love reading your love letters . . . sitting alone and just talking to you. XXXXXXXX

A thousand kisses deep
