Love Letter 19 – Family

Love Letter 19 – Family

One day is rarely like another, but one thing is for certain – family is my constant – here and then, now and beyond . . . I embrace the present and savour the past, devouring magical moments with Mom (and Dad) as I lean into Mom’s Love Letter 19 alongside busy street traffic and the swaddling sounds of Coldplay:

At work – 3 A.M.
Alta Bates Hospital
Oct 1/60
(7 months to go!)

Hi my honey!
My how I love you!
And such a wonderful phone call, no sore throat, and we actually laughed on the phone – we’re progressing.
It was just so great to talk w/ you, dear – and my mind is no where near Berkeley – everyone has had to repeat their questions to me – as I’m in a daze – they say it’s love – and how lucky can one person be – me to have you!!
After I hung up all I wanted to do was roar up to your apartment on Broadway and pay you a visit – what would we do tho’??!
You sounded disappointed when I said I’d be down here a month longer – oh honey, I’d love to be w/ you, but this month (Nov) even tho’ Ernie & I will be here alone won’t prove too disastrous –
1.  If I did work in Man. it would mean I’d have to pay registration fees for 1960 – only a month or so.
2.  And this way I’ll be w/ you soon after the beginning of Dec. and we’ll have a month together and what a glorious time!!
I get all excited and butterflies just thinking about it! – it will be Christmas dear so hard to imagine, snow and all the decorations will be up – the right time for us to be together – oh honey, can you believe it – to have you w/ me all the time – Zowie – just to have your arms around me –
We have so much to talk about, planning and all – and we’ve got a lot to catch up on –
The 2 months will pass quickly, love –
Can hardly wait to get off that plane and see you – probably be nauseous all the time just thinking of it – remember how nervous I was when I met your mom for the first time – wasn’t bad after the initial meeting and she’s so very nice.
Would rather stay here for the month of Nov. then attempt to venture up to Flin Flon and work a little and try and get Christmas off. So best I spend Christmas w/ my love then I’ll be off to F.F. to celebrate my second Christmas (Jan.) as I’ll leave everything there and have 2 celebrations.
It will be fabulous making house calls & visiting your friends. Who will be our friends in the future (Gosh honey, they’ll be two of us, always then).
Glad to hear that everyone is fine at your home – hello to all.
Can hardly wait to meet your Grandma & Grandpa – will be the first one I’ve ever met – that will be in the family.
Now for the honeymoon – do you think dear that we’ll actually make it down to New York in 2 weeks driving – you know us dear – we’ll probably spend multi-hours resting (?ha) in bed!
That’s wonderful about getting 2 days w/ pay tho’ dear – wowee, hardly excited.
Am nearly as bad as mom – she’s looking around at dresses & everything else.
You should read her letters – they talk more about her son (Bryan) than anyone else, but it is nice to hear about you.
As I told you on the phone she has nearly re-painted the whole house – what a job.
What a family – can hardly wait for you to meet them.

What a family indeed!
December dreaming creates oozing excitement, bursting butterflies and niggling nausea – all within the freshly painted rooms prepared for the eventful meeting of the in-laws . . . Zowie!

And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
