Love Letter 12 – Sleep

Love Letter 12 – Sleep

Charlotte Day Wilson’s Mountains whisks me from the demanding day’s events, transitioning me easily into Berkeley, 1960 and into the comforting arms of Mom’s Love Letter 12:

 Hello My Dear!
Thought I’d omit this morning’s writing duties, but here I am to tell you that I love you so very much!
Of course have done very little since last nite, but kept fairly busy.
Had rather a lousy sleep to-day w/ telephone ringing 3 times and someone at the door, but actually had about 5 hours sleep in all (and remember how many nites I had less sleep than that – during “our courting days” at 2612).
I recall you going home around 6 o’clock one morning, but what an important morning – we talked about a wedding in the future – ours!
Then did some shopping – am doing some sewing think I’ll make a couple of skirts (haven’t done any sewing for several years) but I have so much time at nite will be able to hem them and keep myself awake.
Enjoy sewing tho’.
Am going over to Pat’s to use her sewing machine at the end of the week.
Either I’ll sew or knit anything to fill some of these nites.
Have read 3 books now am reading a detective type now (called “The Long Goodbye”) – as long as it isn’t too gory.
Ventured into the Public Library on Shattuck to-day too – man am I going to be talented when I see you next my dear – less than 3 months – Zowie.
Oh I love you – and can hardly wait to get bruised – does this sound like me?
I wonder at times how you struggle thru’ my letters – on reading them over I sometimes have trouble – but Bryan everything I say means only one thing – I’ll love you always and continue to spoil you – not too badly tho’.
Joan was home this evening and was truly bored – she hasn’t been out for many moons.
Temperamental crew I live with – it seems they never seem to do the same thing at the same time.
Watched some T.V. & read part of my book – also re-read your letters dear – oh they’re wonderful – they sound so much like you!
How is your patience lasting – any trying incidents lately – leave your car keys in our car lately? (remember in Monterey – pancake house).
Sorry dear, but I just couldn’t help laughing – but then you know me (intimately as one letter mentioned).
Talking w/ Marion to-nite and she strongly advised married life – really cute pair.
She so innocently says – “and it seems so funny Bette we always go to bed so early.”
What a familiar phrase – I can see your early plans to retire – but w/ a king size bed dear I’ll have some chance to get away – ha (just when I tease you!).

Ah, sleep – so vital and yet so easily swapped in exchange for more time with her beloved . . . and in ‘less than 3 months’ I’m guessing sleep will be the last thing on either of your minds Mom!

I agree, not much sleeping once they connect again. Only 3 months. Zowie!
