Love Letter 64 – Little Ruffled

Love Letter 64 – Little Ruffled

My nails hunger for polishing, my brows crave tinting and my body thirsts for soaking – but before primping and prepping for another New Year’s Eve, I take a gratifying glimpse at the magnolious moments of this passing year. My eyes well a little as I rewind, recall and relive glimmering glimpses of another fading year. I make a swift about face while turning into January 1961 with the tunes of Jimmie Rodgers and the passionate prose of Mom’s Love Letter 64:

10:30 a.m. Wed

Hi My Dearest!
How wonderful it was to hear you on the phone last nite! —
Oh I love you so much, dear.
Am sorry I didn’t write to you more frequently last week, so am starting this letter right now.
Am sitting under the hair dryer at the hair dresser’s – just testing to see if they can do my hair properly for our big day.
I really have no idea what I want – just long & neat for you, my love, but would much prefer to be able to sit a couple hours on Sat (18th) and not worry about how my hair will look (am sure it will get a little ruffled that nite).
They’ll be quite a bit going on Fri w/ rehearsal and the wee party after can you believe it, dear only 1 month from to-day.
Am still in a rather daze thinking about last nite – what a surprise!
I went to Steventons first to talk over the photography samples & prices and think you’ll agree that they are fairly reasonable, and then Mr. S & I had a drink (all the time he knew the ladies were having a shower for me).
Finally decided I best get down to Carole’s after missing 2 buses and there walked in to see 16 ladies (Mrs. Steventon included).
Of course I cried – hardly a shock – and the gifts were lovely, dear, all pieces of our crystal. We did have a lot of fun.
All I wanted to do was phone & talk w/ you and when you got on the phone I hardly knew what to say – except honey – I love you so very much & need you right now.
It seems this last month will be the hardest & loneliest time to be apart – there is so much to talk to you about & so much I want you to see.
Really don’t know how we’re going to get anything back to Wpg.
Even after last nite, dear have to fill boxes full of crystal – packed individually and that we should take in the car.
Are any of the kids coming up by train? If so can send back my trunk on their ticket.
It seems like there’s so much time left, but always something to be done.
P.S. I see where Jimmie Rodgers is appearing at the Rancho real soon – ‘member Reno?
I Love You Bryan!

I can hardly keep up with you Mom – where you’ve been, where you are and where you’re going . . . but there’s one thing I’m quite sure of and that is in one lone month’s time your hair is going to get a little more than a little ruffled on your big day?!

She had, mm-mm, kisses sweeter than wine
