Love Letter 50 – Mopsy

Love Letter 50 – Mopsy

Chill hip hop beats wash over the kitchen and into the adjacent dining and living space, lulling me into a sort of trance as I stare motionless through the shaded window at absolutely nothing at all. I slowly snap out of my absent-mindedness with the citrusy scents spritzing intermittently from its pear shaped vessel and while dreamily entering the captivating world of December, 1960 with Mom’s Love Letter 50:

December 5/60
11:55 pm

Hi my Honey!
Received your letter to-day & what a great mood I’m in – sorry I was so bitchy in that last letter dear.
This was about the worst week-end! Real lonely and somehow I never got your letter on Saturday – well I was truly fit-to-be tied.
Poor Mom – what a great person!
She put up w/ me and on Sunday couldn’t take it anymore – I was so lonely I wanted you so badly! – well anyhow everything went thru’ my mind when I didn’t hear from you, dear – thought something had happened to you – so really had a real crying session – Mom took great care of me and said not to worry – all was fine! And we went out – oh I love you so, dear!
Have arranged to have my gown made, should be grand & costing a pretty penny, but want to look alright for my husband.
Sorry to hear you’ve been so busy – hope all is finished now & you have some time to yourself.
Anytime for your thesis, honey?
Don’t you dare look at bras first – Remember, don’t spend much on me – we’ll be able to do some shopping together later on.
Glad to hear you’re doing so well w/ your bowling & curling – great!
Am bowling 10 pins on Friday nite & see how I do – these alleys are in pretty rough shape tho’ – and some people nearly bounce the ball down the alley.
Congratulations to Betsy – Love is wonderful & hope she is as happy as we are – wonder if her fellow has bed on his mind, too – but then what guy doesn’t.
Zowie – really got the mos. days & time we fell in love, eh. I didn’t have it quite that accurately, but know it didn’t take long.
Well dear you are now in love w/ a mopsy (short curly hair) – actually not that bad & should grow by February – what is it now – 73 days.
Hope we can locate an apt. at Christmas w/ not too much trouble – but no doubt we will.
Babysat Saturday at Curly & Joy’s – real dolls.
Curly & a neighbour were rather living it up when I got down there – home made brew – good stuff.
Weekends sure go faster when I have something to do –

My mind sometimes plays tricks on me too, Mom – nothing a good crying session followed by a mindfully consoling therapy session can’t handle to put everything back at ease.
Besides, 73 days and you’ll be gushing down the aisle in your grand one-of-a-kind wedding gown and your outgrown mopsy hairdo!
