Love Letter 47 – Bed?

Love Letter 47 – Bed?

Highs and lows, ebbs and flows, ups and downs, booms and busts continue to fill the early pages of my winter calendar – ah, life within my tilted and sometimes tainted northern hemisphere.
A distant distraction of Elvis’ upbeat recording along with Mom’s familiar flowing cursive temper my feverish mood as I slip into the pages of Mom’s Love Letter 47, 1960:

Hi
Got the orchestra for the reception!!

Nov. 28
Flin Flon

Hi my honey!
Couldn’t help but get this card for you, lover.
Just had the word “bed” in it.
Here it is another Monday over thank goodness.
Worked fairly hard, but not too much energy exerted.
Got my first cheque to-day and what a blow – only $234.00 (less than 1/2 of yours) they took income tax, hospitalization, etc. off.
By the way dear I’m paid up re: hospitalization for the next 6 months so you won’t have to pay for me until April or so – one good thing.
Paid for some of my Christmas presents tho! – Mom hasn’t a clue about the hat I got her yet – surprise her.
By the way dear what are you getting Mom Johnston?
After last nite could hardly sleep after – everyone was in such a rare mood – truly euphoric.
By the time the end of the evening had come Don & Uncle Frank were going thru’ the playboys –
Still have no idea what Unk wrote you, but he too is anxious to meet you – by the way dear we are all invited over to Auntie Bertha’s for Christmas dinner.
Got my hair cut and curled to-nite by Mom so will have a few curls for a few days now – it’ll grow before Feb. I hope.
Tomorrow nite Mom & I are heading down to Joy’s and iron for several hours – the kids have been feeling fairly miserable & w/ Joy working she has got a wee bit behind so off for one good deed.
Next week Eth & Bud start to move to a house across the street – great fun.
Good deeders.
Well my love – will close now. ‘Nite
I love you so!!
Yours, Bette
xxxxxxxxxxxx!!
Chopp Chopp.

Mom strategically adds a couple bandages onto a Gibson Studio greeting card that reads:
Still in
Bed?
Maybe you could do something constructive while you’re there . . .
A Zeigler cartoon character, lying naked and partially propped up on the infamous bed, is watering a flower growing from his belly button. Mom adds:
Could this be you Lover? HAHA
Hair

Blue (Hazel?) Eyes
One wisdom tooth less
Bed
Yours always,
Bette
xxxx

Temperatures are surely rising in the Flin Flon family homes this evening Mom, as high-spirited discussions and wedding prank ‘research’ continue into the wee hours. I suspect you and Dad’s fiery feelings are reaching a feverish pitch too with future prospects of wedded bliss . . . and endless notions of the newlywed bed?!

You light my morning sky
With burning love
