Love Letter 45 – Many a Moon
Love Letter 45 – Many a Moon
I may have miraculously encountered a Rip Van Winkle effect awakening from an extended slumber and landing directly into the next season – (lasting) snow in the Pacific Northwest, not again?! It’s amazing how quickly I forget, or readily dismiss, former prairie days of -20 degrees Celsius, that “feels like” -30 degrees Celsius with the wind chill … but alas, November slides suspiciously into December.
I take a seat in the oatmeal-coloured upholstered dining chair and instantly warm my body, mind and soul with the push of the fireplace remote, a sip of heated honey-infused chai tea, the soul-filled sounds of Demo Cates and the continuing pizazzy pages of Mom’s Love Letter 45, November, 1960:

Here it is 5 pm and have no more appointments so am writing you this letter sitting at a doctor’s office.
Have only Dr Stinson to look after now.
He said Barry Stinson had known who you were and that you were “a brain” – mine anyhow – you’re the tops dear!
May go baby sitting for Joyce & Curly tomorrow nite so will get some writing done.
Still have to think of 3 or so more Christmas gifts – also wrap them in a couple weeks I guess.
What did you think of getting me dear? – just probing.
10pm – to-nite
Well plans were changed as usual – got home about 6:15pm and then w/ Jimmy’s help decided to go to a movie at 6:30pm – 2 escorts yet (9 year olds) – bought them popcorn and bars – all Jimmy (Ethel’s boy) kept saying was what will Bryan say when you tell him you went to the show w/ us –
Came home washed & set my hair & here I am – finishing your letter.
Am going to babysit for Joy & Curly tomorrow nite so will get my cards done then.
Haven’t babysat on a Saturday nite for many a moon.
Well love of my life will close now (over)
Guess you’ll be watching the big game on T.V. tomorrow – lucky one.
I love you more than anything, dear.
Miss you so.
Goodnight now.
Loads of Love & Kisses.
Yours always,
Bette

In a few short weeks, Mom, Friday night at the movies and Saturday eve babysitting wee ones will look and feel a whole lot different . . . and before you know it you’ll be spending many a moon watching the big games and fabulous flicks cuddled up with the love of your life!
The way we laugh, the way we love,
Underneath the moon and stars above
