Love Letter 41 – Teenagers
Love Letter 41 – Teenagers
I offer my swirling squirrel mind a break from dizzying distresses and mounting images with a spontaneous siesta under the midday Vancouver sun. Roused by the sounds of Steely Dan and a full bladder I sit up from the backyard chaise, reach my arms toward the clear blue sky and pop through the opened French doors with infused energy. I return with my overstuffed Bobobark backpack, a tumbler of water and Mom’s entrancing handwritten pages of Love Letter 41, November, 1960:
Flin Flon – Wed
Hi Darling!
How are you to-day, dear?
Dammit it’s lonely without each other isn’t it?!
Only 3 months and 2 days until we’re husband & wife, but seems like a long time –
There’s much to do, but so often time seems to stand still for some reason.
This week is full and nearly gone, but can hardly wait to be in your arms again –
I love you so very much, Bryan.
Had a women’s meeting over here last nite so spent the evening chatting w/ females – after 2 1/2 hours of it I ran across the street to Ethel’s for a cup of coffee & a cigarette.
Bud came back from the rink (he’s on the executive & coaches an all-star juvenile team) and the 3 of us sat and talked ’till after midnite.
My day off to-day – stayed in bed until 11 o’clock – hardly lazy – made sandwiches for the kids (Don & Jimmy) for their lunch, then house cleaning.
Then have a few errands downtown then promised Susan a cake at one of our restaurants.
To-nite Mom & I are off to visit Don’s teachers and go to a home – school meeting – topic: “How Should We Treat Teenagers of To-day” re: entertainment – 1. what places in town can our young people obtain entertainment, 2. does the problem of liquor enter into the realm of teenage entertainment? Plus – 6 more sub-topics – see how we’ll raise our teenagers dear – (honey do you realize when our family are in their teens we’ll be over 40 – old, eh?)
Tomorrow eve – going down to the rink to watch Bud coach – an all-star game (juveniles) then one game of 10 pins.
Friday nite have been asked to sub for a 10-pin league.
Next week have been asked out to a couple more friends’ place then sub for a curling team (not too sure if I can find anything appropriate to wear tho’ as Mom has taken over my curling clothes).
Everyone is pretty good at home – I’m lonely, dear – can you help me!!
Ch
atting with the gals, sleeping in on your day off, subbing at the curling rink and bowling alley, coffee and a cig while gabbing past midnight sounds like you’re living the life Mom – the life of a teenager. All that’s missing is your fella . . . only three months and two days!
Hey, nineteen
No, we got nothing in common
