Love Letter 32 – Electrolux

Love Letter 32 – Electrolux

The renewing spring day eases into early evening with comforting cumulus clouds reaching the length of the vast western sky like a parent’s reassuring embrace reaching across time. I unfold Mom’s handwritten pages from the Nov 4, 1960 postmarked envelope and instinctively bring them to my nose wishing for a hint of her essence.
I relish the remaining sips of my London fog, Johnny’s verses over the radio and the everlasting lines of Mom’s Love Letter 32:

7 pm– Hi honey – finished a full day of work and am I ever bushed – a little tired out.
Sure am glad that I wouldn’t be doing this all the time – gave about 12 typhoid shots & 1/2 doz. polio shots – took out stitches and called out for patients – great fun.
Well dear guess you’ve been busy at work also, eh.
Only 50 more days till we’re together – oh goodie.
How is everyone at your home – say hello to all for me please!
By the way dear, Mom would like to know if we’d like $100 from her for a wedding present or would we like an electrolux (app. $100.00) she thought she’d get from a dealer here – Tell me what you think honey.
They think February is real close to Christmas, but happy that we decided to get married.
I look at our ring so frequently & can hardly wait to have the wedding band beside it.
Gee it would be nice to have you w/ me dear – I love you so very much!
Nothing much happened since I wrote to you last nite of course.
Gran is not too bad honey, but what a change – she sure is getting worse – more crippled & so very thin now, but nice to have me home so they say.
Hello from all.
Well dear I’ll close and mail this letter on the way to the fashion show. (over)
Bye now dear.
Yours always.
Love,
Bette

Chopp – Chopp

Another countdown to togetherness begins, huh Mom, along with bounteous decisions to be considered – oh goodie!
Cash or an electrolux – hmm, I’d have to go with the trusty Electrolux for a multitude of reasons, one being that the back end doubles as a natural air hairdryer.

Well, our hearts beat like thunder
I don’t know why they don’t explode
