Love Letter 30 – Moola
Love Letter 30 – Moola
Liquid sunshine streams from its narrow-mouthed decanter, diffusing citrus essential oils throughout the gradually darkening garden suite. Lauryn Hill’s raspy vocals temper the intermittent pounding of tumbling dryer balls and the screeching sidewalk sounds of overstuffed rolling suitcases.
I curl up in the curved mustard upholstered rocker and reenter the dreamy, enchanting world of October, 1960 with the continuing pages of Mom’s Love Letter 30:

Hello to everyone.
How’s the weather, eh?
Really warm and clear here the past week or so.
Around 6:30 AM, while at work last nite, I took Marty’s car and drove over to #102 to pick up my roommates for work.
– Real nice car I say.
Snuck down the fire stairway to leave my work for a few mins. – Marty covered for me –
Well dear will close now –
Chopp – Chopp!! Till We’re Together!
I Love You So Very Much!!
P.S. Had a lovely compliment to-day – a very sick professor (full of cancer) who I never cared for before last nite – said “Oh, I’m so glad I got you for my nurse to-nite – have heard how good and pleasant you are – I told my wife there was a nurse here that looked like Liz Taylor” – wonderful patient.
Bye
Yours always!!
Love, Bette

(over)
Hi Honey – Just closing off my very last letter to you – until I am w/ you! 3 days.
Like you said, it seems time is at a definite standstill even tho’ there are just 3 days left – 16 hours of working time.
4:30 A.M. Oct 19/60
Will be glad to get back to my normal sleeping habit – at nite that is – as w/ so much on my mind and all that fill these next couple days have had rather short sound sleeps – usually about 3-4 hours – so am tired.
Over to Pat & Frank’s for supper – real nice – Took Robert Roy 2 real nice books – his first ones – from us dear – Pat real thrilled.
Got a telegram this morning wanting me to start work Nov 2/60 at the clinic – then Mom phoned me – really want me to start. So will take the job at the clinic definitely – Head of the clinic sent the telegram – office hours 9 – 6 (hour off for lunch). There is a good chance they will pay for my fare back – from Winnipeg at least since it’s w/ the company (HBM&S) starting salary $275.00 so should save some moola – March sounds great dear (how do you like the questionnaire?).
Love Bette

A Don Irwin original greeting card featuring a droopy eyed, side gazing basset hound accompanies Mom’s Love Letter 30 and reads:
All I need . . . Is a Little Lovin’ and Pettin’
Mom cleverly adds:
From you DEAR!!
Mom signs off:
Be With You Very Soon – I Luv U!!

Chopp!! Chopp!!
We may not always catch glimpses of daylight Mom, but in 3 delightful days blue skies will most certainly prevail.
Here’s to a future of restful sleeps, regular-ish schedules, occasional fire stairway escapes and extra moola!
Your love makes me feel ten feet tall
