Love Letter 1 – Beatniks
Leonard Cohen’s mournful baritone fills the corner of the living room, the newly lit candle flickers incessantly within its glass cage and the setting sun casts filtered rays onto the full moon glass table. Received some Winnipeg papers and read about our future city –Well honey I can’t say much else as have only been around the sunshine state for 14 hours or so.
Even tho’ it is nearly 10 o’clock it still seems you’ll be around! –
I love you dear and can only wait until we’re together –
Maybe time will pass more quickly during September – I hope so.
Here’s a write up about the Beatniks –
Bye now dear – Love You!!
Chopp – chopp Always yours,

I know you’ll really enjoy the pages of this wee note – but you know me dear –
I talk like this too – don’t I? -what a wonderful time we had together.
Good luck in your work –
Love Bette

Oh, to be walking in Mom’s shoes upon the sun splattered, well-trodden streets of Berkeley passing unconventional, non-materialistic Beatniks, uncaged to societal norms dressed in their turtlenecks and thin sweaters, accessorized with scarves, berets and the occasional bongo. And enjoying the poetry-reading voices and guitar plucking folk songs wafting faintly through the doors of passing coffee houses. Far out!
