Love Letter 53 – Monopoly

Love Letter 53 – Monopoly

The desert’s daytime heat lingers into late afternoon as I reach for my flute of blushing rosé amidst the juvenile vineyard vines. Neighbouring conversations dissipate into the lazy and partly hazy summer skies with the cooling instrumentals of Fourplay and Mom’s easing expressions within Love Letter 53:

11:45 p.m.

Hi Honey!
Just a short note before I go to bed to tell you how much I love you!
Only 2 months and 8 more days, dear – can you believe it —
I love you very much, Bryan as well you know.
Have done very little since I last wrote last nite.
Work of course & always glad when Monday is over – Oh I hate work – what familiar words.
Got Jimmy a monopoly game – what he wanted so am nearly caught up on my shopping.
Busy tomorrow nite & going out for supper Wednesday – nite to Carole & Don’s.
Spent some time down there to-nite in fact Don just drove me home 15 mins. ago – wish it were you.
Poor Don a real busy day at work to-day — the main T of our town water supply broke down in the nite, our emergency (extra) water supply tank had leaked all nite & inevitably the whole town was out of water for nearly 3 hours (all except the Company) — what a mess – they are still working on some of the pipes – lucky there was no fire at such a time tho – or even colder & more pipes freeze up.
Don is truly beat — everyone phoning & bitching to him – the joys of a town engineer.
Also F.F. Bombers won to-nite 4-2.
Also ordered our invitations to-day, hope I spelled your name right? Bryan Keith – ha!
Well honey there isn’t much else I can say regarding my activities – rather nil when you’re not here!
How is everyone at your home?
Say hello to all please.
What anniversary is Grandma & Grandpa celebrating on Boxing Day (exact) – must send them a card.
Really nice here weather wise – better not storm around the 23rd.
Well darling will close now, wish you were with me —
I love you so very much – please take care of yourself.
— only 11 more sleeps until I’m in your arms.
I love you
’nite dear
Yours always,
Bette

There’s nothing like secretly detecting a Monopoly game-shaped gift – tucked amidst a tower of Santas, reindeers and snowmen wrapped presents nestled under the flashing family Christmas tree – with one’s name on it!
I don’t suppose board games will be top of your mind in 11 more sleeps, huh Mom . . . and no need to ‘get out of jail free’?!
