Love Letter 13 – Butterflies

Love Letter 13  – Butterflies

I bounce around the king bed and slide across the recently mopped hardwood floor with Mom’s Love Letter 13 in hand. I land onto the cappucino-coloured bar stool, still bopping to the cool vibes of Passionfruit while eagerly removing the tender handwritten pages from the Sep 22, 1960 postmarked envelope:

Sept 21/60
5 A.M.

Hello my honey!
Here it is only 3 hours later from writing you the other letter, but will chat w/ you now dear so I can keep awake.
My eyes look like road maps and it’s real hard for me to be alert; especially since there is absolutely nil to do.
The 3 of us (nurses) played bridge for nearly an hour, but not too exciting as it’s hard to bid without a partner – then we had another gab session in the kitchen.
By the time the coffee is re-heated for the 3rd time you can very nearly cut it and serve it.
The other nurse that works nites does a lot of work w/ the young boy and girl groups and has invited me to the Y.M.C.A. for some trampoline stunts.
Will tell you all about it dear if I manage to survive the first bout and not bounce right off the canvas.
It’s funny how one can sit and gabble on about so little – oh honey, I hope you don’t mind me talking w/ you at such crazy times, but this way it seems like you’re so much closer.
To-day actually (Tues.) seemed to go the fastest of all days – time can lag so, but before we know it it will be December.
Then when I go home it will be only a little over 3 months until our day – never will we be separated again.
Can hardly wait to be in a punchy mood and take it out on you dear – We had so much fun together while here and have a whole future together – the more I think of it the more excited I get – oh Bryan, I love you so very much.
So many times, so many things enter my mind about our future being w/ you & hearing about your job, looking for furniture, having our enormous family (3 boys & 2 girls), and designing our home. I really get butterflies and try to settle down enough to go to sleep.
That Bobby & Mary Jo are no help at all – they keep teasing me about being so lucky we only have to wait 7 months and evidently Mary Jo says they will not be able to get married for 2 more years – so I guess honey we’re not too badly off.
Gee Bryan do you think I’ll ever be able to pick up the good old household traits of cooking curried lamb, roast beef, etc – You better keep your eyes & ears open so you can get pointers to give your wife-to-be when she ever drops up to visit you.
There’s so many things in the stores that seem so appropriate for us to have, but we’ll be strictly Canadian.
Oh darling I love you so much and need you so – so many times when our door bell rings I think maybe it will be you – but no one rings it w/ your old familiar ring.
I hope all is going well w/ your work, dear and you finish your work (from here) soon – then no sweat.
Will finish this letter to-nite.
“Kisses Kisses Kisses Hershey’s Kisses”

As Mom’s words sink in, a similar fluttering sensation consumes my body, mind and soul while imagining her and Dad’s future moments together. A flutter of Butterflies filling the vastness with beauty, balance and joy – here’s to dreams coming true.

Coffee reheated 3 times? Yuck…if that doesn’t keep you awake. HA!
Bette is anxious and excited. It must be hard to fall asleep…..
